I have a lot of pics anf films from my trips over LOS. They are all on this laptop but i am a tad worried i'll lose them if the laptop crashes, or the more likely scenario is stupid me deleates them, it's almost happened a few times.

So what kind of disk do i buy? and how easy is it to put them on it?

I have 1.78 GB worth of pics if thats any help.

Thansk in advance from thick Q

You can fit all the pics onto a dvd, you need a program like Nero to create a Data Disk, you can fit them all one disk then.

Collect all your files together, select all of them, then click the Burn tab at the window top. Insert the DVD and continue.

I've started keeping multiple copies of DVD backups. One is my 'usable' backup which is readily accessible and the other is my 'archive' backup which is pretty much locked away and I will only use it to create a new 'usable' backup if that gets damaged. I used to just keep all my media files on a seperate internal HD in my system until I lost over 100GB of data when a 160GB HD died - I had a few files copied onto other media and others that I had already processed but I lost almost all the original unedited files. I still have the HD in case I ever decide I need to use a data recovery service. On my vacation to LOS last year I had a 1GB Flash card go bad. I luckily copied most of the good photos off to my laptop so the loss was minimal but it could have been worse. I've also had the unlucky experience of backup cd/dvds get damaged - thats why I now keep multiple copies.

This year I plan to copy everything off my cameras daily to my laptop and if possible FTP the files to one of my webservers every few days as well as burn them to CD/DVD.

Don't ever put your important data into single harddrive. If you have to use HDD, make sure you are on RAID setup. (2 hdd's working like one, so if one fails other keeps goin)
