I was wondering if it's possible to keep a Thai prepaid mobile number and use it for each visit to Thailand. That is, use the same sim and keep the same number.

Scumbag's DTAC thread states that the number will expire when not used for a certain number of days, so you'll have to buy a new card for each visit.

Is this right?

i was told that the prepaid charge lasts 1 year on the phone....best thing to do is charge it before you leave and obviously make it back within one year. after one year tho- sometime after that, your # gets taken and shuffled out into working #'s.

My sim cards used to always expire after about 6 mo . This past trip I learnt that the 1-2 call sim cards in the pink box are valid for 1 year with any amount of baht left on them

Like people have said your credit validity will depend on the plan you are on and how much credit you buy. I suspect the plans where the credit lasts for one year cost a bit more for calls.

I found something interesting with Dtac. It is possible to extend your credit validity period at a cost of 2 Baht per 30 days. You can extend the credit up to 365 days. So it will cost you 24 Baht to get one year.

I also found that with Dtac you have 45 days after the credit runs out before the SIM card expires. If you reload in the first 30 days you get the credit you had back. After that the credit you had before is gone.
