Chiangmai is nothing like Pattaya. A few bars and discos,3 or 4 soapy massage places. I'm bored after 3 days. Big question tho is why are you changing airports to fly to CM? Air Asia has flights from Swampypoon, I think Thai does too.

8 days is way too long for ChiangMai. I agree with BM Carguy, 2-3 days to do the touristy stuff and unless you find a sweet young thing that you want to stay with for a while, head south to Patts.
I was there in winter 2006, and after 2 days I had seen soo many temples I got bored with them. Night market on the weekends is worth doing though. |

I lived there 4 yrs..Nothing like Pattaya..Center of town are the bars, mostly beer type bars..No go-gos when I lived there..Disco mostly freelancers and L/Bs..Top North Hotel is centerally located and good value..Safe, clean with nice pool and a easy walk to most places of interest..If your looking at a laid back holiday then this is more suited for you...Train from BKK is a treat and very scenic..

Hi, no i am more after party, hmm, I am so confused, cuz i know what pattaya is about well anyway i am addicted to pattaya haha thx 4 help I say go for sure..City is laid out much kile Venice with many Canals..A Pretty city but your not likely to find a GOOD girl on a Holiday..Good Thai girls take lots of time..C.M. has its share of snakes too so just because your outside Patts Doesnt mean your girl will be a good catch..Spend a few days there to say that youve been and then come here..Meet the girls from the University..I suggest going alone and not take a Patts girl with you..Plenty of Hookers in that area so why take one? |

.Train from BKK is a treat and very scenic.. Taking the train one way is an option but I wouldn't do it round trip. When in Chiang Mai the first class sleepers were sold out so we went second class sleeper. They give each of you your own compartment. After being in teeraks's comprtment for 15 min, I decided it was too claustrophopic and climbed up to mine. |

there is a beer bar complex down the first road, soi 1. around 15 beer bars of varying quality with a muay thai ring at the bottom which houses fights weekly, there are other bars in that area that all have girls working. there is a go go called the chiang mai star or some such, i forget... what ever you do DO NOT go in there! it is by far the WORST go go i have ever set foot in, the ugliest girls in the darkest lighting possible, i thought it was a scene from the film "hostel"
forget temples theyre boring, do doi duthep and forget the smaller ones, they all look the same, around the night market area there are many many beer bars and there is a go go called the honey club, but it is in the middle of the gay area, (dont ask me why seems a bit odd to have a lady go go surrounded by gay bars), girls in there are ok, but expensive. head over the moat and into the student area near the universtity and the hospital for the real action, student bars are readily in reach and the girls are amazing, although you will need to speak some thai to ensure misunderstandings dont occur. but be warned - the girls there are not too interested in getting laid off old hairy falangs - they have an abundance of readily available thai students that are rich kids with more hair and better looks than a 35 yr balding, old ex pat! chiang mai is worth a stay, but you got to explore or youll end up wandering the night market thinking that is all chiang mai has to offer. it is the world capital of ruck-sacks, so if you dont own one, that is place to buy one. |
