Great pics. I remember the Mall and that fountain. There is an area next to it where there was a fire eater performing the few nights I was there. Is that the same pigs head from your party?

Thanks Jason, that brings back some great memories, "The Mall" i took 14 of the wives family and village to there on my last trip, it was a great feeling to look at the kids faces when they were on the little fun fair in there.. ill be back soon

I am going to Korat in early November as this is the area my TFG originates from. Good to see what the place is like. Looks very civilized and reasonably organised, I had no idea it was such a big and vibrant place. Just question, is the Air Base still in use? and if so are there many foreigners (Farangs) there. Did you drive or ride or catch a bus from Bangkok? hd |

Cheers, Jason. I love Khorat and the surrounding areas. I think many people are surprised by what a large place it is. It is hard to believe that 50 years ago the stretch between Pak Chong and Khorat was all jungle. Thanks for the pics.

The old USAF base in Korat is officially closed to the US (now a RTAF base), but it is still occaisionally used as a refueling station for some USAF planes. I have a friend stationed in the area, and has stopped there a few times. From what he tells me, it is still an operating RTAF base but there are no longer any US forces stationed there. Someone feel free to correct me.
