Prachin Buri (Thai ปราจีนบุรี) is a province (changwat) of Thailand.

The province is divided into two major parts, the low river valley of the Prachin Buri River, and the higher lands with plateaus and mountains of the Dong Phaya Yen mountains. In those areas are also two national parks, Khao Yai and the Tab Larn National Park.

The provincial seal shows the Bodhi tree. It symbolizes the first Bodhi tree planted about 2000 years ago in the temple Wat Si Maha Phot. The provincial colors are red and yellow - red stands for the land, and yellow for Buddhism.
Provincial tree is the Bodhi tree (Ficus religiosa), provincial flower is the Cork Tree (Millingtonia hortensis).

The province is subdivided in 7 districts (Amphoe). These are further subdivided into 65 communes (tambon) and 658 villages (muban).

Prachinburi has not much to offer, or if it has - it's well hidden.

You can reach Prachinburi from Pattaya easily by bus, just take the Rayong - Mai Sai or Chiang Mai busses. THey all pass through Prachin Buri.

Another option (very cheap one) is to take the eastern train line from BKK or Chaosengsao.


Once you get off in Prachinburi you find easily very nice and inexpensive thai food. The stuff you have problems to find in Pattaya nowadays.

BUT: Prachinburi has a small National Museum that is covers the whole eastern seaboard or eastern region of Thailand.

The place is small but well worth visiting. It is a really new museum with well-organized exhibits. The collection of Djavarati and Khmer Art is excellent and has very fine pieces. THe display is impressive. They have also fine pre-historical exhibits. All is well-explained and in English as well. For 30 Baht you get a nice English catalog with lots of info.

Is it worth a trip? Not really given the distance. Is it worth a stop? Absolutely. Take 2 hrs off your trip, enjoy the place and grab some nice food.

Just tried to call an old girlfriend of mine in Prachin Buri for some local info but she is still in Hamburg with her sponsor. I get on well with her but the German boyfriend has no idea - does that mean Prachin girls are guilty of the odd fib or is it only Nan?
