Just got my driving license for a car in Norway, not same like the US when we have to be 18 years old before taking the license.

The question is, do you have to retake a test or something to rent a car, moped or anything in pattaya if you have a driving license, or maybe its a own license just for the moped?

I drive cars and large motorbikes in Pattaya with no mention of licences. Just pay the police when get stopped, or flash the car licence. However i did rent off a legitimate company once called budget (in koh samui) and they needed a full UK licence. I think most countries accept that because of the high standard we set.

I think if you want to make it completely legal you can purchace an international licence for about £25. Not too sure from where you are.

in england we can buy it from the RAC - which is a vehicle breakdown emergency service. Yoiu dont need to do anything just pay up.

I believe technically without a international drivers licence it isn't fully legal, but with one, you have a rock solid argunment in the event of claims and so forth.

Okai, then i should try that, but traffic is pretty scary in Thailand. I know someone who just passed away in an accident and maybe not good idea to rent something, just take Bbus or a mopedtaxi or something ^_^

A new UK driver licenses ( the one with photo ID ) covers you in Los as a visitor .
and you should have it on you at all times ,

If the police stop you and you aint got a licence for a bike, how much do they fine you?

Are you in big trouble in that case? or can you be?

My advice would be dont rent anything, you have just passed your test. Driving in Thailand is a nightmare. I have had a license for 15 years and you have to be on your guard at all times. If you are in Pattaya and want a bike (dont bother with a car unless you are going on a long journey) you only need to show your passport, they dont give a shit if you can drive or not because if you crash it you buy them a NEW bike even if the bike you rent is a bag of shit.

also to speedyman52, you can either pay 200 baht on the spot if you can slip it to him discretely or sometimes 400 baht at the police station. Just tell them you left your license back in your home country.
