Forum Upgrade March 2017 - Hints, Tips and Complaints   19/03/17

The forum is now up again and running after the upgrade - there is still the task of searching for updated versions of apps and plugins from the old version and then download, upgrade and configure    Please note any issues outside of this to this thread here where the Site Admins can then work out what needs to be reinstated when possible.         Thank you for your patience and hopefully we can provide updates on progress

  1. This trip, I booked my first seven days at LK The Empress and, then, walked into some hotels for rates. Needed another 18 days. Was surprised by the lack of interest and was just given a laminated sheet with rack rates. I believe that most hotels do not give authority at the lower echelon to negotiate. Plus, the language barrier does not allow them to understand the need to negotiate to fill rooms. One hotel next to Lk The Empress actually had big sign saying "Walk ins Welcomed." Not so. Booking in lobby is possible but can take time to filter down to the hotel. Do recommend short temporary stay in hotel if you have not been here before and not sure of the area that you want to be in. If you know where you want to be, book your whole stay. 2. I believe the disagreemment is about comparing apples and oranges. Can you get a low floor, smallish condo with no view or ambience for less than 1k baht on long term lease? Yes, I looked at a few. Can you get a 24th floor, beautiful one bedroom condo and wonderdul views for the same? Absolutely not. Simple reason it cost more to maintain and, more importantly, the supply is low for the better condos and the demand is high. As to the "being mad not to accept" idea. Makes sense normally but not a reality in Pattaya as most all condos are managed by non-owners and property managers do not want to tell owners that they must take cheap amount or stay empty. They would loss face. Better to say just no customers. Also, then, they do not have to worry about damages. Plus, negotiating of this type with property managers would be extremely difficult unless you spoke the language. Just my opinions as I am presently reclining on my couch looking down on the beach and Naklua. Btw, the free Wi-Fi is superb and fast. Have a Great Day Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. Ditto to the above except I only have ten towels. Lol. They clean at noon for me. It is great having Central Festival next door. Saw Pirates of the Caribbean today and people watched for a couple of hours in cold, cold air conditioning. Must have looked funny today carrying a coat with me. Needed it during the movie and somewhat in the mall. I like to walk in San Diego and find walking the six stories of the mall is great. Get exercise and people watching in without the heat, sun, uneven sidewalks and humidity of outside. Then. I have a Diary Queen ice cream. Life is good. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. Without a doubt, The Storm is correct about Vt6. Can walk to Beach Road in two minutes passing through an electronic gate. The front of Vt6 is on 2nd Road. Below is what I wrote when I moved into Vt6 two days ago: Moved into Vt6 yesterday for the next few weeks. One bedroom condo on 24th floor looking North. Since it is third condo from Beach Road. I have a wonderful view of Naklua & Wong Amat Beach. Read more at: http://www.bangkok.com/pattaya/naklua/?cid=ch:OTH:001 It was interesting to see boats stranded at low tide and floating at high tide. The place has two balconies and I'm sitting here typing as day breaks. People ask, "What do you do during the day?" Central Festival Mall next door can provide some answers. It rivals any mall in the world. It has theatres with VIP seating and the most advanced technology in their seats. Bowling alley and electronics, computers to use and other interactive technology. It is an amazing place with six stories. I will say that it has EVERY type of food in the world. It was amazing the amount of choices at good prices. This is where you buy quality products to take home: http://www.centralfestival.co.th/index.php Rented from Dancewatchers and includes weekday service with change out of linens and all towels daily. All in, 3000 baht a night. Have a Great Day" They have a "condo" check in area and has many, many places to rent. No need for reservation if you want a lower floor. I stayed at LK The Empress for a week and became convinced Vt6 will work for me. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  6. LK The Empress does not have a room for the complete 18 days remaining. Tik came through and I rented a conso this morning for rest of my stay. Thanks Cerberus for your assistance. I confused them but all good now. Btw, visited Vt6 and found that they have rental units and office just like a hotel. They gave me the key and I was able to view some rooms.
  7. Thanks for the reply. Hilton is one on my list to check today. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. Will do that first thing this morning. Thanks. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  9. LK The Empress does not have a room for the complete 18 days remaining. Modified this post as Tik came through and I rented this place this morning for rest of my stay. Thanks Cerberus for your assistance. http://www.dancewatchers.com/vt6_24-941.html Btw, visited Vt6 and found that they have rental units and office just like a hotel. They gave me the key and I was able to view some rooms. It is scary that far up. I am afraid of heights. The place has two balconies. Footnote: I don't drink, take drugs and I am not depressed. I will probably never go out on the balconies. If you hear I jumped, don't believe it. I will have been murdered. Lol. [emoji5][emoji5]
  10. Presently staying at LK The Empress in jacuzzi/king bed at $70 a night. Sent in request and they ignored request. Stuck me in great room but cannot open shades as office building looks into room. Great hotel. No communication. Mentioned that I might extend another 19 days and no response. Just sign in and go away. Looking for a place with ocean view for privacy, balcony and amenities like the LK The Empress. Do not want to do condo rental as I use room service and like when breakfast is included. Cannot believe LK group is not interested in about $1400 In income. Oh well, will walk as a result. Thanks. 11. I looked at VT6 and LK The Empress and, finally, booked the LK The Empress. Short walk to catch Baht busses each way they are between 2nd and Beach. Booked thought Agoda.
  12. When you say it that way, it doesn't sound good. Lol. Been away from mongering, except Tijuana, for nine years and figured it was time to get back. Tried to schedule in April but life would not have it. Then, the wife said let's do the summer. Okay. Lol. Still, San Diego is nice.
  13. Cool. Great info. Thanks. My wife thanks you. Lol.
  14. Outstanding reply. Thank you.
  15. http://www.honeyscoffeehouse.com/ Very interested in Vt6. Their reservation page has the calendar for 2016 versus 2017. For instance, the 23rd is a Tuesday but they have it as Monday. So, do I book based on date or day indicated on their calendar? I say the same thing in other hotel reservation sites. Thanks
