Forum Upgrade March 2017 - Hints, Tips and Complaints   19/03/17

The forum is now up again and running after the upgrade - there is still the task of searching for updated versions of apps and plugins from the old version and then download, upgrade and configure    Please note any issues outside of this to this thread here where the Site Admins can then work out what needs to be reinstated when possible.         Thank you for your patience and hopefully we can provide updates on progress

  1. Wouldn't a solution be to prepay your booking, guarantee room costs with a second credit card and put a hold on it before you check out, using the express checkout? I did that when I got stuck and had to stay at the horrible big boat hotel, worked fine.
  2. It was girl friendly when I stayed there in Dec 09. The doorman would give me a sly wink and even had a go at me whenever I didn't show up with a lady. What a champ. It's also fun flaunting your mongering in the face of the many many japanese & korean (family) tour groups that frequent the place and the odd western couple. The only downsides are the girs on reception are (or were) hotttttttt and I'd love to think I had a chance (unlikely for butterfly mak mak) and also it's abit ostentatiously flashy which lead to a few calls of "you give tip for me 1,000". Wasn't a problem for me but def not the type of place you'd want to have an issue with a girl going off her head. As for walking to soi 2... look at the maps on wotif.com both hotels are there. It's about a 2-300 metre walk would be my guess. Enough to push the scrotometer up a notch or two on a hot day but not a challenge unless you've got health issues.
  3. Yep thanks for the replies gents - I've stayed there before on a prebook via hotelthailand.com but was able to get a slightly better rate direct this time. I'll try for the credit card downpayment. Cheers.
  4. Dear all, I am seeking to confirm the instructions I received from staff at flipper house by email concerning a deposit for a stay at the end of the year. In short, I have been asked to pay a 50% deposit via bank transfer. Some of my thoughts on this are: + booking direct with hotel, makes sense they would ask for some prepayment in peak season (as compared to agoda etc who take ALL the money up front) + the email came from the 'flipperptty@hotmail.com' email address, which is the address published on the website + staff were happy with my initial plans for a trusted contact to pay the deposit at the hotel (but that option is now unavailable to me) - the account name is that of a couple and not of a business (I don't know thai corporate law but maybe this is normal?) - I'm wary of wiring a chunk of cash in case the directions I received are to a staff member's personal account with no connection to the hotel, and turning up with no booking or cash Has anyone been through this booking process at Flipper in the past and if so can you confirm it's a legitimate approach? My preference would be to supply a credit card number as (I thought) was the practice with other hotels (on the rationale that VISA have ALOT more muscle than I do). Any thoughts?
  5. I stayed at Holiday Inn when it was opening specials, and about 2,500 a night. From time to time they have specials and you can get for around 3k still. I was worried about joiner policy at first, but after a while I turned up alone one night and the doorman had a go at me and said I was young & should have more power. So I don't think it's an issue... It's a fantastic hotel, albeit a little further from WS.
