Forum Upgrade March 2017 - Hints, Tips and Complaints   19/03/17

The forum is not down - just running very slowly due to the task of reindexing the millions of posts in the database due to an upgrade of the server software. Unfortunately it is difficult to predict how long this will take to complete so all BM's are implored to be patient. You can all help to speed this process by refraining from posting pointless stuff and please avoid uploading photos till it is finished.    Sometimes users are experiencing very slow page reads or error pages and this is caused by server load.    Please note that many of the old features are not available atm but this because they cannot be reinstated until the reindex is complete - so don't be too concerned about missing bits as yet. However .... please note any issues outside of this to this thread here where the Site Admins can then work out what needs to be reinstated when possible.   Current Progress as of 8pm Bangkok time 20 March 2017     Current Progress as of 2:30pm Bangkok time 21 March 2017     Current Progress as of 1:00pm Bangkok time 22 March 2017     Thank you for your patience and hopefully we can provide updates on progress

  1. Staying In Nova Gold at the moment. Booked direct on the hotel site Monday morning and checked in on Tuesday! 8888 all in including breakfast for a week. Got a free upgrade to a Deluxe from the standard. Have stayed here quite often earlier and everything is just the same, and I mean that in a good way, even though the walk to Amari for breakfast is a pain... Great for the price... 2. Have stayed in Nova Gold several times and, at its price, its one of the best options that I've found in Pattaya. However, the location is a bit out of the way for me (used to have a LLT with a car when I stayed there regularly) and the only other downside is the really small fridge. Stay at the Stay now at about 1800B on Soi 10... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  3. Have stayed at both. Like the SMS2 much better because I hate that shower over the bath in Areca. If you're looking for the "resort" feel then SMS2 is not the place, Areca with it's two large pools has that resort type feel. However, the showers are the deal breaker for me...
  4. These countries also get single entry tourist visas valid for 60 days issued by the Thai consulates in their countries. They used to charge 1000 baht for this which has been free since December. I don't think visa fees for other countries have been waived, though I could be wrong... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  5. One of the reasons I prefer the Stay is that there's no charge for up to two girls... ;) Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  6. Having stayed at both, I much prefer the Stay just down the Soi to Page 10... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  7. Don't know when this was done and then reduced, because the last time I got a VOA was on 16th September and it was 1k baht. Came in November, but that was on a regular tourist visa which also cost 1k baht, but now will be nothing from next month for a while... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  8. The fees for Indian tourists has always been 1k baht - there was some talk of increasing it to 2k but that hasn't happened. As for flocking to Thailand, we've been doing it for years... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  9. Last time I was in Bangkok a few months back, I stayed at the Stable Lodge on Soi 8. Decent rooms, ok pool and no problems wth the ladies. It's located well and is well within your budget... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  10. No experience web Prime/Hulu but with spotify you must need the VPN to sign in. After that you can use it without the VPN as long as you remain signed in... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  11. Just to confirm that the TVs at The Stay in Soi 10 support an HDMI input from a MacBook... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  12. I have used both HDMI cables and Chromecast in a couple of hotels in Pattaya - Amari Nova and Nova Gold and both work fine! Having said that, its pretty simple to block chromecast on your router firewall and I would think that most of the larger chains may do it - all you have to do is disallow SSDP and block TCP ports 8008-8009 and you won't be able to connect to casting device...
