  1. Hi. I've just recieved my 12 month (plus 3 Month) O-A retirement visa. It cost me 25,000 baht. My mate is wanting to do the same, but I paid well over the odds. If it only cost 2,000 baht, what is the process please. Also, what will be my process when I come to re-apply next time around. Thanking you in addvance. Ossie

  2. Throughout my 13 years in Pattaya I am still amazed at the hideous prices on items. I never have, and probably never will, figure out how prices of everything in a country with ten dollar a day labor can be five times what they are in the US. I have been purchasing many items on ebay lately where they add the import tariffs at shipping and I pay one price with no hassle. I have learned that the import tariffs are only twenty to fifty percent depending on the item and shipping is reasonable. Most items from China, Japan, and a lot of other place ship free but the US is a little pricy. I have found I can buy items on ebay, pay the shipping, pay the import taxes and still save 75%. Try it sometime.
  3. Grab Taxi

Don't bother.  They are worse scam artists than the regular taxis.
  4. New to Thailand

You can find them absolutely anywhere in Pattaya.
  5. Long term stay in Thailand ...

You can get a 60 day visa extendable to 90 days in you home country prior to arriving in Thailand.  I have heard you can get a double one in Laos but it does require one exit after three months.  If you are over 50 it is really easy to get a retirement visa which is good for one year.  Never go to any agent in Thaland that claims they will get you a visa for Bt 40,000 because they only cost Bt 2,000.
  6. I don't barfine

Although it has never happened to me, I have a friend that has several girls tell him they don't barfine or they are having their period after sucking a couple of drinks out of him. Has anybody had these experiences? Is this place getting as bad as the Philippines?
  7. Import duty on Tv for the house

Be careful because the tuner may be different in different countries.  I know that a TV in the US will not tune into stations in England so the same may be true here.  I have found that shipping cost are too high to make shipping things here feasible.  If you have a retirement visa you can import furniture duty free but it is a nightmare of a process and you will end up paying somebody a bribe.  Just bite the bullet and buy one here.
