Trip through Cambodia from 16 till 31 december 2012 .

First some background info on 'little' May . I met May 2 months ago , while on a visa trip , in a bar on street 104 in PP . Only 142 cm but a great body ,

friendly face , good talk and nice to have around . We did go along very well so i stayed with her for the remaining 3 days of my trip till i had to fly

back to Thailand .

She has had a terrible accident when she was a little kid and broke her spine on several places . This is also the reason why she is only 142cm .

Father killed mother when she was 3 months old and is on the run ever since so she got addopted by an aunt that was living in the countryside .

As there was of course no money to get things fixed she has been going trough life handicapped from 2 till 16 years old . At 16 there was a French guy

that helped her out by giving her a job and arranged that an insurance company covered the payment for the badly needed operation . She has been in

a hospital in France for 2 months to get everything done . They used the splint bone of her right leg to repair the spine . Three big 30cm scars on her

back and leg still remember on what has happened .

After this she has gone back to PP and slowly worked her way out of the slum . Used the money from work to get herself into a decent school and to find

a good job . She is pain free now and can do everything .

The slum where she was living before she started working in a bar . Her sister with 3 little kids and some other family members are still living there .

Problem in Cambodia is even a good job won't bring you much more than $200 us a month and as this was not enough to support herself , her granddad

and her sister who is still living in the slums with 3 little kids so she decides to go to work in a bar . She tells me that she makes between $500 and $600us

a month in the bar . She is picky with who she goes with and takes 2 or 3 customers a week .

She is working there for 8 months when we met and that is where this TR starts .

After flying back to Thailand we keep in contact and when i mention that i would like to make a trip through Cambodia she was more than willing to come

with me .

16 Decmber i fly back to PP and May is all dressed up waiting for me at the airport . (It's always a great feeling to have a nice girl waiting for you at the airport) .

She had arranged a decent $7us airconditioned taxi that would drop us of at our hotel on the riverside . The first 2 days we spend in PP , eat good , have fun .

The evenings we spend in the bar where she was working . May proudly showing her farang boyfriend around and i can see they all love this little girl and are

happy for her . After buying her friends some ladydrinks her friends are my friends too so everybody happy .

One of the cassiers is also a good friend off her and she had arranged that i even didn't have to pay anything to the bar to take May out (you gotta love Cambodia) .

About 40 girls working in this bar and you actually have to do your best to find an ugly one in there . There are even girls of 16/17 years old 'working' there to learn

the job . They sit with you , have a drink and a chat but when you try to barfine them they tell you , sorry can not , so be a bit carefull .

The morning of the 18nd we take the bus to Siem Raep , 300km a 6 hour ride . The first hour the road is sand and putholes but the last 5 hours is fine . At the

busstop in SR there are dozens of touts and tuk tuk drivers almost fighting to reel you in , quite annoying . This is one of the small downpoints of Cambodia .

Every 5 seconds you are asked if you want a tuk tuk a motorbike or something else you don't need at that moment .

We have a very nice hotel in SR , the Lucky Angkor , one of better hotels at $50us a night . Big rooms , nice bathroom , swimming pool and very good buffet

breakfast . Siem Raep did surprise me positively and is a very nice town to spend a few days . Of course there's the Angkor Wat complex with all his great

temples but the town itself is clean , has a great centre with beautiful buildings , good restaurants and a lot of markets . Good place also to buy some silver ,

good quality and very cheap .

Next morning we arrange a tuk tuk for the whole day ($18us) to get to Angkor wat . It's the cool/dry season so it's the perfect time to visit . Wonderfull place

that is so big that you have to spend at least 2 or 3 days to get the idea of what it really is . Entry price farang $20us , Khmer free .

We visit Angkor wat , Bayan , Angkor Tom . Just look at the pictures to get an idea of this special place and all the history as it's little hard to describe in words .

Next morning we visit a sort of mini Cambodia but it looks like we are the only guests in the whole park , entry farang $20us , Khmer $5us . They have picked up

some annoying Thai habbits already . Nice place to spend a few hours though .

In the afternoon we go back to the Angkok Wat complex to visit some more remote temples . Nice ride with the tuk tuk through the Cambodian countryside .

Nice swim after we got back in the hotel and as May likes to dress a 'little' sexy with only a string and a mini bra most of the hotel personel was all of a sudden

very busy with 'something' around the pool , lol .

21th December we hire a private car to get to Battambang as it is not easy to go there by bus . $40us but in only 2,5 hours we do the 200km ride so worth the

money .

Battambang looks like a very boring little town in the countryside (it actually is) but it has some great surroundings to visit . We did a trip with the bamboo train ,

basicly a set of wheels on an old traintrack covered with bamboo used to transport the growings from the surrounding farmlands . At the end of the track there's

a little shop runned by 2 older people where you can have a drink and a snack . Just sit down there and listen to the stories these 2 oldtimers have to tell .

He's has been a in the army during the Pol Pot regime and has some great stories to tell .

After the bamboo train we visit Banan EK a temple 1300mts up in the mountains . After climbing the 400+ steps in 30 degrees and low oxygen air it's time for a

rest and a drink .

Killing cave is next on the list . The name comes from the time Pol Pot used these caves to drop people of to a certain dead . About 10.000 has lost there live in

the caves in Battambang only . The cave isn't that special but there's a nice temple next to it with a lot of monkeys and great views .

May got robbed by this little sucker , few bags of fruit .

The family has to wait till the big boss is done .

At 17.45 , one of the highlights of this trip is watching a million bats flying out into the night to find food an unreal sight and very impressive .

I had given May my Canon S95 to shoot pics for herself but she was so impressed by the bats that she had totally forgotten to take the camera with her and left

it on some wall along the road where about a hundred more people where watching 'the show' . It was about an hour later in the tuk tuk on the way back to the

hotel that i asked here where she had put the camera .... oops . We asked the tuk tuk driver to turn around (without much hope) to have a look if maybe the

camera was still on the same spot . Just before we arrive back on the spot we got stopped by another tuk tuk driver that very happy and proud hands me my

camera . He remembered May (sexy as usual) and he had seen her with the camera before so when he didn't see us no more he had taken the camera with

him to hand it to us later . He knew our tuk tuk driver and would have found us through him . I thanked him 3 times , handed him $10us and everybody was

happy , only in Cambodia i guess .

Battambang at night is dark and boring . With almost no tourists it wasn't easy to find a place to eat but with the help of a tuk tuk driver we find about the only

restaurant that was open . Nice cheap meal a few beers and back to the hotel as we weren't really on ease in a place in the middle of nowhere with only a

dozen of drunk Khmers as other visitors .

Back in the hotel , planning the rest of our trip we find out that the bus ride to Koh Kong , our next destination , is about 17 hours by bus so not really comfortable

to do in one day . We decide to go back to PP (6 hours by bus) to spend a few days there and look where we go next .

Back in PP we rent a Honda 250 dirt bike to go to May's hometown about 60km outside of PP . She wanted to visit her granddad . She's also trying to get a new

pasport and needs some paperwork from there to get things sorted . The office is only open till 12.00 so we have to come back the next day as it's 14.00 already .

The little town is really in the middle of nowhere and only has dirttracks . Happy i rented a decent bike and not a small scooter . Next day we do the same trip and

also meet May's sister with her husband who are willing to help to sort out all the paperwork for her . After driving around 3 hours , 6 offices and 4 bribes later the paperwork is sorted ... and this is only the paperwork to apply for a pasport ... oh my Budha this country is so damm corrupt and inefficient . (You want pasport

quick ... $250us extra you have next week ... no i did not) .

This girl doesn't really belong here anymore .

Driving around the countryside all day to get the paperwork sorted .

Every office we visited  we where being stared at by the locals . Cambodians can be really shameless and a lot of them are pretty dumb .

According to May the first barang in this countryside village . It's getting a little ackward being stared at for hours by the family .

The corruption is so in your face in PP where 50% of the cars is a new Lexus , Landcruiser , Range rover , Cadillac , Hummer , ect. ( while the average wage is

about $120us a month) that it must be very frustrating for non government personel .

17.00 we drive back to the hotel . I'm used to drive a motorbike in Pattaya and Bangkok for the last 4 years but rush hour in PP is quite a different level . A red

traffic light doesn't mean wait , driving on the right side of the road doesn't mean everyone is going in the same direction , the big Range rovers and Landcruisers

think they're king of the road and don't give a shit about motorbikes , total annarchy . Let's say i was happy to be back in the hotel again without any accidents .

The evenings we spend in May's bar . Playing pool and having fun with her friends . The last night almost ends up in a barfight with some Aussie guy that thought

i had done something to his Khmer wife . Luckily most of the girls had seen that not me but she started to make trouble and backed me up . I bluffed my way out

by telling him i've been a pro boxer for 10 years so he maybe wanna reconsider his plans of starting a fight . He wasn't shore what to think of the situation , checked

bin after 10 minutes and left the place , pfff . Going to the gym a few times a week can help you out in situations like this sometimes i guess .

26th December we take the bus to Sihanoukville . A 6 hour ride ... but after 6 hours we are .... halfway so at 23.00 instead of 18.00 we arrive in Sihanoukville . I had

a confirmed booking made through Agoda but the hotel seemed fully booked . This is not what you want after an 11 hour bus ride at 23.00 at night . After calling 4

times with the big boss there was at once a room available for us . The next morning at 6.00am i understand why this room wasn't meant to be rented out . We got waken up brutely by the sound of power drills and other heavy equipment . This was the view from the room ... 

Complaints where not going to help as it was holiday season and everything was fully booked .

Sihanoukville is like most cities in Cambodia a bit French orientated . It has some nice beaches with a lot of restaurants but not much to do during daytime . There

are some areas with Pattaya style beerbars but as i was with a girl already i didn't visit them so can't say much about the quality .

First day we rent a bike , visit some beaches and relaxed for the day . Next day we hop on the boat for the 3,5 hour boattrip to Koh Rong . The boattrip was including breakfast and lunch , good value for the $20us . We where meant to go back the same day but after arriving on Koh Rong we got offered a beach bungalow for only $15us . The choice to spend a night on one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see or waking up again at 6am by a powerdrill wasn't that difficult . To be

honest i didn't sleep much as there where all kind of animals running through the 'bungalow' at night . The island is full of rats , snakes , monkeys , tukets , millipeds ,

ect but is absolutely stunning . There are no roads and it's only accesable by boat but definitely worth the 7 hour boatride .

Back to the hotel for the last night in Sihanouk and in the morning the bus to PP for the last time . We decide to take the 7am bus as we will probably be woken up

at 6am again anyway .

The busride is 6 hours so we are back in PP at 1pm and have the afternoon to visit some friends of May , do some shopping in the central market , have a good

meal and a few drinks on the riverside watching the crazy daily PP life go by . Also a good moment to have a serious talk with May about what she expects from

the future . We did go along very well in the last 2 weeks and i wouldn't mind staying with her for a longer time , she has the same feeling . We can split our time

in 2 weeks PP and 2 months Pattaya for the rest of this year and look how things work out , sounds appealing . Flights are cheap in the Air asia big sale and i have

to go out of Thailand now and then anyway to renew my visa so why not . But when the subject kids comes up we are not on the same level . She wants at least

1 kid and i have 3 kids between 12 and 19 already so not really (really not) wanna start again . We decide to give it a rest for now and first look how things work

out in the near future . We have to wait till her pasport is ready anyway .

30 December last night in PP we rent the Honda 250 again and make another trip to her hometown to have a little farewell party . $20us for beer and cigarettes ,

another $20us for granddad and everybody is happy . The ride back in the dark through the Cambodian countryside is a little tricky after a few beers but we arrive

safely back in our hotel .

It was a little dark and it took me a few moments to realize what i was exactly eating . Tasted ok though .

We're back at 11pm and not really sleepy so we have a shower and go out for the night . May takes me from small bars with $0,5us big beers to some fully

packed hiso place where we have to make our way through the Range rovers , Lambos , Ferraris and even a RR to get in . The beers are $12us in here

(and it was only half the size of the $0,5us one) . Never seen so much beautiful ladies in one place together though , oh my Budha . There's a huge difference

between rich and poor in PP .

The next morning we still have the motorbike till 2pm and May takes me to a real Khmer restaurant along the riverside outside PP where probably no tourist

has ever been . We have a great meal , Khmer food is really tasty . This makes a perfect end on a perfect trip .

After this it's back to the hotel to pick up the bags and off to the airport . I give May the last $300us in my wallet to get her through the next weeks and promise

to come pick her up as soon as her pasport is ready .

And back to Thailand for now .

 I'm only looking at going a couple days to break up the day time drinking. 

I met a girl during my last trip in Thailand: she works as a nurse, most of the time in Bangkok and 1-2days per month in Pattaya or another big city. I would like to send her some money now and then, but very low amounts as 1) I am not rich 2) I don't want her to get used to it or count on it as certain income.

Basically I would like to send her 6-8000pounds every other month withouth spending 1-2k in commissions or similar. Does anyone has a good suggestion?

Flying pigeons do not work on such a long distance and putting some notes in an envelope would just make someone at the custom's day...

I have been with a Thai girl for 2.4 years including 10 months in Australia, (we came back to Thailand together.) She is a sensible girl and saves the money I give her. She pays for her own dental, buys he own clothes, phone cards, etc. Her family are good hard working people and don't bother her or I for money, (they don't even own a dead buffalo).

Without her my daily spend would be a lot higher. We have made our apartment very comfortable and it is no hardship to stay home every now and again with a very attractive lady 22 years my junior.

A tip for anyone considering retiring here, don't forget to calculate you expenses in your own country. I spend 25% of my passive income on the following:

Living here is not as cheap as you may think. I feel I have a very privileged life and live very well. I eat well and drink a shitload. I have a lady that is an absolute gem. We hit the bars and Ago go’s together so I get to see it all without the lady drinks and bar fines.

My girl would be quite happy to stay in the apartment for weeks on end, she just loves it. She never goes out with the girls either. She makes life very easy and enjoyable for me. Bottom line is she saves me a heaps of money.

65000 Baht a month seems to be the right amount to live well here. If a man didn't like to drink so much it would be a lot lower.

My hope is that this may be of some help to BM's who are considering the move. I am very happy I did. One more thought. I still have a job in Australia to go back to. I had the idea that if I spent to much or was killing myself drinking I would simply go back to work. I was so wrong after 332 days in fantasy land how could you ever go back to a boring job?

I get a great deal out of PA so It is only fair I give something back.

On arrival in Thailand with a valid Tourist Visa nationals of the following countries are entitled to remain in Thailand for up to 60 days with each entry:

It is not permitted to stay continuously in Thailand for more than 60 (or 30) days but if you have a visa with more than one entry which has not been used you can re-enter for further stays of 60 (or 30) days until you have used up all entries. If you have a visa with more than one entry and wish to stay in Thailand for a further 60 (or 30) days it is necessary to visit a Thai Immigration Border Control Office before your 60 (or 30) days the stay expires, exit Thailand into a neighbouring country and re-enter to activate your next 60 (or 30) days. You can keep doing this until you have used all your entries provided this is within the validity of your visa. At the end of your only or final stay you must leave Thailand and you cannot re-enter until you obtain a new visa.

A visa cannot be saved for use on a second or third visit on the basis that first entry is for a stay of 30 days or less.

Exiting Thailand within the length of stay granted means forfeiting any remaining days granted for that visit."

     Poland is not on the 60 days countries list, is that means i would get 30 days, then after 30 days have to go laos and back to activate second 30 days entry?

Is it 3 x 30 days in total ?

friend of my tg works in massage shop in thatphanom and my tg often visit that massage shop and was trying to begin work like masseuse but said me that she does not like to touch other men and when men touch her. so she stopped work in it. and also she told me that in that massage shop her friend not do extra and that to do extra is not ordinary thing there. she told that there never provided extra, only massage.

     The bottled beer is cheaper than any other go go bars in the area. Last night after leaving Private Dancer I went down the street to the Sapphire Club where at the time there was only one girl on stage showing off her boobs while the rest were wearing what appeared to be their street clothes and in no way sexy at all. I was with a buddy and two bottles of Leo cost us 240Th Bt.in total which was much more than Private Dancer.

      As well as the mamasans floating around the Private Dancer there's an English guy that I think is the manager called Ricky keeping an eagle eye over the goings on and chatting with customers.

      Some nights they have free food and others they have a happy hour on certain beer that goes on all day. I'll get more definite info on the details when that shitty Sonkran is over and post them here. Till then get yourself in there for a guaranteed good time or if you're not yet in Pattaya do yourself a favour and put it on your agenda.Enjoy.

  I did not purchase travel insurance when I bought my plane ticket and is it possible to still buy travellers insurance after buying your ticket?  Im just looking for some suggestions on what companies to look for ...Im in the United States and my trip is mid june to mid July... any suggestions ?

There are 40 NEW bars compared to the last Darkside map I did.

I don't live over that side so I have no idea what they are like.

Hopefully with the aid of the Map you will be able to try them out and tick off the good ones and scrub off the bad ones.

As we were going around on Tuesday I noticed the Driver was having trouble turning the Old Map upside down as it was hard to drive and spot the Bars....

This time I've redone the MAP upside down and it`s much easier to navigate.

Russian dies in horrific road crash in Jomtien

A 33 year old Russian was killed in a high speed road crash on Jomtien Second Road on Monday Night.

Police and rescue services were called to the scene of the crash just before 8.30pm and were met with a disturbing crash scene. The body of the Russian had been torn into two pieces after he was thrown through the air and hit a street pylon.

 

The victim was driving a Kawasaki 750cc rented motorbike. In front of him was a Honda City, driven by Khun Duenjai aged 24 and a Motorbike Taxi, driven by Khun Bagan aged 32, who sustained minor injuries but was sent to Hospital as a precaution.

 

Witnesses, including the driver of the Honda City, explained how the Russian approached at a high rate of speed in the left lane of the carriageway and overtook the slower moving car. He then cut back into the left lane after the overtake but failed to see the motorbike taxi in front of the car. A collision took place where the Russian was thrown from his bike and hit a street pylon side-on. This caused his body to be torn into two pieces.

 

Khun Deunjai was detained by Police for a time and Police will question the motorbike taxi driver when he is fit to be seen. The Russian Embassy is aware of the crash and of the findings of the initial investigation which seem to point to the Russian victim being responsible for the crash.

 

If so what sort of size do you take?

whats the best money-wise setup to minimize these financial penalties, while still having easy access to funds?

Without out giving away to much - anybody who knows 'THE WINDMILL' will LOVE the ' SUGARBABY' setup as it`s run by the Same Boss 'DAVID' ( Who knows what he`s doing...)

The Place has Black walls and plenty of Mirrors - nice lighting and the stage is set in the middle with the hanky - panky action down at the very back.

The Bar was nicely laid out - plenty of room - Plenty of Girls and the girls were friendly - the naughty girls down the back never stopped and the music o.k.

The hide - a - way tub with a nice seating area down the far end.

Draft beer was 80 Baht.

Great Place for those guys who like a little bit extra.

Our average gates are only 4,000 or so (Glory hunters and blades fans swelled it to 8,153 yesterday) and we have a very astute manager who has utilised the loan system perfectly, and got us some real bargains in the transfer market. Just wanted to share a video of the final moments on Sky TV yesterday

We lost to first leg in Yorkshire to a deflected goal but instead of taking us apart Blades shut up shop and parked the bus! Couldn't believe it. When they brought the 1-0 lead here we knew we had a chance, and so it proved to be with an 85th minute winner. We took the lead in the 6th minute.

Absolutely made up and Wembley will be a wonderful day out for us, win or lose.

David a good friend that I've known for 20 years also has been drinking at Peppermint for Years and Years and never had a problem.

Two nights ago he goes into Peppermint .

The place is quite full and he has only had a couple of beers earlier - He buys a dancing girl a drink and he has two draft beers , they laugh and joke and everything is perfect.

The girl goes back on the stage, David gets out 300 baht and puts it into his bin with the bill - there are no service waiters around so he still looking at his girl dancing and they exchange smiles.

Perfect.

Then he sees a waiter and says " Check Bin  " - the waiter picks up the Bin and says theres no money in the bin....David is Not Pissed - Nowhere near and he can't believe what the waiter is saying - David tells the waiter that he had put the money into the bin.

Other waiters appeared and they all talk together - the main waiter said he would go and check the cameras to see if David put the money in the bin.

15 minutes later he came back and said David hadn't - David knew he had - But he didn't want any problems and paid another 300 baht.

His dancer came off of the stage and was watching all what was happening between the waiters and said to David - "Bad Men."

I personally know Peppermint is one of the TOP Bars in Pattaya and maybe they are unaware what is happening.

In all my Years of going to Peppermint I have found the Staff /Dancers to give First Class Service so when you hear something like this it makes your ears pick up.

So as a warning - Please keep an eye on your money when you have put it in the Bin...!!!!!!!

So my question is, when you have several different numbers for Thai girls and thy all want to hangout how do you choose which one to hangout with? Do you hangout with one of them and then tell her to leave so you can hangout with the next? Do you try to hangout with all of them on separate days? I usually don't do the GFE but I will for my next trip to save on a little bit of money as opposed to racking up a bunch of ST's for the night.

Well, on my first trip to Pattaya, myself and my brother went out for a usual night out. We ended up in Marine. I started talking to a girl, and before I knew it we were on her motorbike on the way back to my hotel. As we reached the hotel, I figured it would be best if I got another room, since I was sharing a room with my brother. I didn't have a condom, so I tell her to wait, and run over to my hotel room. My brother has the key - damnit. Anyway, I knock on the door, and my brother is inside... with a girl. Anyway, I grab a few condoms and head back over to the room. Things happen, blah blah blah and I wake up with a bad hangover. We have to check out so the girl helps me over to my hotel room, and tucks me into bed. She says "Can I have some money for fuel please?", I say "Sure, how much?" to which she responds "100 baht." I hand over the 100 baht, she gives me a kiss and writes down her number, and leaves.

I ask my brother where his girl was. He says he didn't feel like having her stay over as all of our things were in the room, so he said he walked her home earlier that morning. I ask him if he paid. No. I ask him if the asked for money, and he says no. I look through the pictures from the previous night on the camera and came across a few naked shots of his girl. Fair play.

I've been with 4 girls in total in Pattaya. One asked for money for fuel. One asked for 300 baht taxi money, and two didn't ask for money at all. They just left their number. One girl wrote "Don't forget me".

Anyway, this is getting long. I'm just wondering, after reading through the threads on this forum... did I just happen to stumble across the non-working girls or did those girls expect to be paid but were too shy to ask? I have to admit, I was completely naive with regards to how it all works. In Bangkok, they tell me if they want money, and I walk away and find someone else. I sometimes ask of course, if I suspect they might be. I may be moving to Pattaya in June so some advice from you guys would be appreciated. The last thing I'd want is to go home with a girl... have her leave without paying her, without her saying anything, then seeing her out and thinking that I'm a cheapskate.

We entered Lao via the Friendship Bridge from Nong Khai. Once you get to the Lao side you'll need to line up for a VOA. Some people get their Lao visa before hand, either from the embassy in BKK or the consulate in Khon Kaen, but most get a VOA upon entry. Depending on your nationality the fee for a 1-month visa is around $USD 30-35. I know Aussies are $30 and Brits/EU $35. Other nationalities can easily find out how much by visiting the Lao Embassy website.

If you have a TGF with you then she enters free using her Thai passport. If she doesn't have a passport she can enter for a limited time only with a border pass. I don't know much about this as the TGFs that have accompanied me always have passports.

TIP 1: Get USD ahead of time and save some money. I got mine from a gold shop in Udon Thani, if coming from Patts get some USD from a money changer. If you don't have USD then the fee is 2000 Baht, which is almost double. You will also need 1 passport photo, plus a pen to fill in the forms. This may be stating the obvious but it amazes me how many people waiting to enter Lao don't have a photo or ask to borrow my pen.

Visa issued you proceed out to the car park to get a ride into Vientiane city approx' 20 KM away. The official rate for a taxi is 300-400 Baht, I got a tuktuk for 200Bt but soon regretted doing so due to breathing all the shitty exhaust fumes out on the road. Next time I'll stop being such a CC and pay extra to go in an AC car.

Vientiane is quite a large city and despite several visits there are parts of the city I've never been to but just driven through. This is because the tourist strip is down by the Mekong River and largely contained within a few blocks. Everything you'll ever want in Vientiane is in this tourist belt: hotels, pubs, restaurants, shops, tour agents, banks, money changers, even most of the tourist attractions such as monuments and major temples like Wat Saket can be reached by foot from this area.

We stayed at the Anou Paradise Hotel. This is an old hotel, probably built in the 1960s, it's showing its age but has a certain old-world charm. The first thing I noticed was all the timber in the building, solid timber floors throughout, wall panels and fittings, wood everywhere. They must have taken out a couple of large teak forests when they built that hotel. Cost was 900Bt a night, including breakfast for 2. The room was large, had AC/hot water/cable TV, and there was a bath. Also wifi is included but I found the wifi pretty useless in Lao, be it at a hotel or in restaurants - halfway through an email the connection would be lost and I'd have to start all over again.

There are many budget hotels around Vientiane, priced 600Bt-1200Bt. Most of the newly built hotels are upmarket and pricier, these advertise as "boutique hotels" and average around 2000Bt, a couple have pools, but hotels with pools are pretty rare in Vientiane. One hotel I looked at and will consider next trip is New Lao Paris Hotel on Sam Sen Thai Road. It's currently 900Bt a night with breakfast. There are many cheaper places around too, one of my favorites that I've stayed at many times is the Phonethip Guesthouse on soi Inpeng just off the riverside road. Large rooms with AC/TV/hot water cost 480Bt.

TIP 2: The currency of Lao is the kip, written as LAK. However, the Thai baht is accepted everywhere and often prices are given in both baht and kip. Also USD is widely accepted. So any of these 3 currencies will be OK in hotels/restaurants/bars. IMO it's better to go to a money changer and get LAK as soon as possible because some places will give you a poor exchange rate if paying in THB. At the time of my visit the exchange rate was 260 LAK = 1 THB.

It was approaching evening after checking into the Anou Paradise so we walked down to the riverside and climbed up the stairs to the rooftop Bor Penn Yang bar. This is the best watering hole in Vientiane IMO, the rooftop view of the Mekong River and Thailand on the other side is great, plus the beer is always cold, prices are good, there's a good selection of food, they play great music, and it's one of the few places in town where tourists can pick up local hookers.

On the first night up at Bor Penn Yang (the name means Mai Pen Rai in Thai) I noticed a cute little hooker sitting at a table with her friend, a couple days later I sighted this same girl entering the door to the 4th floor River View massage shop just around the corner from BPY, so I presume she and her friends work up at the massage parlor and head over to BPY to pull punters when things are quiet. I've never been up to this massage parlor but a good friend told me of a massage shop down by the river where you can get a happy ending or a poke, so it may well be the same place.

Tip 3: Be a bit cautious about approaching girls up at BPY as many of the customers are guys from Thailand who have brought TGFs along for the trip, so you may be hitting on another guy’s takeaway. Best just sit still a while and check things out before making any moves.

There are of course many other bars and places to enjoy a few beers in Vientiane. The nearby Drop Zone is fairly popular and the Samlo Pub. I've never actually been into the Samlo Pub and didn't know it existed until seeing it this last trip. It's an old dark dingy place, looks a bit rough to me and I suspect it could even be a gay cruising bar. I’m not sure about that; just a sense I got when I looked in the door. For anyone interested in the local gay scene there's the GQ Bar in Chao Anou Road, plus a bathhouse also on Chao Anou just before the GQ Bar. I found that bathouse on an earlier trip to Vientiane about 2 years ago when I was relaxing in the steam room and after my eyes became accustomed to the dark I noticed a few of the other guys in the steam room were giving each other "lollipops" so I deduced that I had found a gay venue.

In general there are not many girls available for visiting Farang in Lao. The great majority of bars are staffed by males. Even up at BPY where both girls and young men work behind the bar, they are mostly university students doing part-time evening work and I've never seen any indication of them soliciting customers. A couple bars around the city have a girl or two and it's possible they can be bought out. There are also a few street walkers, especially around the Nam Phu (fountain) however, ladyboys greatly outnumber RGs, so be aware if that's not your thing. Friends have told me of visits of brothels in Vientiane. I personally have never done this so can't offer any suggestions other than you have a talk to the local tuktuk men.

TIP 4: If a girl comes alongside you on a motorcycle in a street in Vientiane and asks to go back your loom with you then almost certainly that'll be a LB.

There's lots of good eating in Vientiane and real easy to find places. Along the riverside road (Fa Ngum Road) there are Lao/Thai/Indian/Mexican/Italian plus general western food, also loads of places selling baguette sandwiches, plus fruit shakes or Beer Lao, or other beers if you prefer.

Of particular note is Mr. Lo's restaurant selling the unique Vientiane "Roosting Chicken". Unlike other chicken shops where the fowls are grabbed as they scratch around on the ground and taken away to be killed, with the Vientiane "Roosting Chicken", they wait until after dark when the chickens have entered the henhouses and are fast asleep on their perches, then Mr. Lo grabs the roosting chickens and takes them off to have their throats slit. I have no idea why this is but suspect the "Roosting Chickens" are more relaxed and therefore have more tender flesh.

If you or TGF want to do some shopping (TGF shopping? Does the bear shit in the woods?) There are night market stalls set up along the riverside of Fa Ngum Road, my TGF found many bargains there. Also the Talad Sao (Morning Market) a few blocks away on Avenue Lane Xang. There's the old Talad Sao and a new one next door, I far prefer the old one. From Talad Sao you can clearly see the Patuxay Monument a kilometer or so further on, it's one of Vientiane's most famous landmarks and worth walking up for a closer look. The story goes it was built with money that the USA government gave the Lao government to build an airport runway, instead the Lao built the monument and so it's sometimes jokingly referred to as "The Vertical Runway".

If you are looking for a post office to buy stamps and send postcards home then the post office is across the road from Talad Sao. Inside Talad Sao are branches of banks, money changers, a couple restaurants & coffee shops. You can buy all manner of goods/clothes/souvenirs, and there's an OK food court up on the 3rd floor level.

On my second day in Vientiane as I walked down a street near That Dam (Black Pagoda) I spied a filthy Lao woman going through a trash can. She wore dirty old shorts and a dirty torn T-shirt, her feet were bare and her legs filthy black with dirt. Obviously she was a homeless woman and had been sleeping on the streets for months, if not years. Nonetheless, as she was bent over the trash can searching through its contents I couldn't help notice that behind that layer of dirt was a fine looking ass and a nice pair of legs. Furthermore, as she stood back from the trash can and walked away I saw that she was not so old, perhaps late 20s, and not bad looking either. I was walking in the same direction as she and a few minutes later she joined up with an equally filthy and raggedy dressed Lao man who had been searching through another set of trash cans. She put her arm affectionately around the man's waist and the pair walked off together.

I stood there on the spot watching her cute ass move away and thought to myself...Mate! You are missing out on something here. If that was my gal fucked if I'd be sleeping on the street and rummaging through trash cans. By hook or by crook I'd get my hands on enough money to buy a cake of soap, some fishnet stockings, a pair of short shorts, a skimpy top, some makeup, a razor, a hairbrush. I'd check into a cheapo room and get that bitch into the shower and scrub her cute ass squeaky clean and shave her snatch and shampoo her hair. Then I'd dress her up in the short shorts, top & fishnets, and make her up and brush her hair, put a pretty pink ribbon in her hair. And then escort her ass down to the riverside where she'll soon be getting 500-1000Bt a pop.

Vang Vieng is about 150 KMs north of Vientiane, on the same route to Luang Prabang, so if you're heading for LP by bus it makes sense to break the journey for a night or two in VV. We took a van from Vientiane which cost only 40,000 LAK (about 150 Bt) and took just over 3 hours. During the Vietnam War the US developed an Air Force base and runway at VV that was used by Air America. This airstrip, then called Lima Site 6, remains today. Un-used for years it's situated on the edge of the town center close to the bus station.

Today the town of VV and the surrounding area is noteworthy because of the impressive limestone karst formations, mountains, caves and the Nam Song river. Until late 2012 it was a hugely popular backpacker mecca, as well known on the SEA backpacker trail as Thailand's Koh Phangan and Khao San Road. However the Lao police had a crackdown on the backpacker haunts and closed the riverside bars. As a result VV today has lost much of its former identity and liveliness; it was rather dead during my visit. The Lao government tourism department seems to be targeting the French geriatric market, old souls who come on nostalgia trips, sit around pretending it's still 1923, spend a shitload of money and go to bed at 9PM. There is some evidence of this already in VV as well as Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and way down south in Pakse.

Still for nature lovers and adventure seekers there are many things to do in VV. Tubing the Nam Song river is still popular, along with river kayaking trips. Others go rock climbing up the karst formations, while others explore the caves. Plus some of the local Farang restaurant owners have drawn up maps of walking or cycling trips. If these things interest you then you'll enjoy VV. If they don't then there's not really any reason to stay more than a night or two and soak up the impressive scenery. It's worth heading down close to the Nam Song river to find a hotel. We took a room at the Vilayvong Hotel which had a great view of the karst formations from our 3rd floor balcony. Cost was 600Bt a night with AC/cable TV/hot water, no breakfast and the usually shitty wifi.

The karst mountains make a splendid backdrop and VV is noted as one of the most tranquil restful spots in all of SEA. Travelers from around the world rave about spending balmy silent evenings sipping a cold Beer Lao on their balconies. Maybe it's like that for 364 nights a year but the one night we spent at VV there just happened to be a Lao wedding party held in a school ground down the road from my hotel. It wasn't until after I'd checked in that the locals began erecting speaker systems on the stage that soon resembled a Black Sabbath concert. All through the night until it finally fell silent around 2AM we were treated to the ear-splitting sounds of locals taking turns toasting the bride and groom and singing their hearts out. Fortunately I'd had a few beers that evening so by the time I hit the bed I was able to half sleep through the worst of it.

Earlier that evening we walked around the main bar area of VV, most of which is down by the river. At night with all the colored lights strung up it reminded me of many beach spots in Thailand, sort of like parts Samui or Krabi without the sea. Another glaring difference between these Lao bars and the Thailand bars is the noticeable absence of girls. Nearly every bar I walked past or sat in had young Lao men behind the bar. Where there were girls working in bars I got the feeling they were either GFs/wives or sisters of the Lao guys who were never far away. Same goes for the numerous massage shops at VV, the girls sitting out front to attract customers but their guys also sitting nearby, maybe inside the shops or next to the girls, you even see their babies and little kids hanging around too. So it seems highly unlikely happy ending massages are on offer.

Another interesting observation I made with these Lao bars is although they are almost entirely staffed by Lao men I've never in more than a dozen visits over the past decade ever seen fights break out between Lao and Farang or even overheard an argument. You see Farang sitting drinking with Lao bar staff, playing pool together, talking and laughing together. Never once seen any agro. A vastly different situation to Thailand where over the years I've witnessed countless fights, some of them downright vicious, and overheard countless heated arguments.

Luang Prabang lies another 220 KM further north of VV and is one of the nicest spots in SEA. I didn't go there this trip but have been there 3 times in the past. I did a detailed TR a couple years ago for another travel forum, so if there's positive feedback to this TR I can repost that LP TR here. Unfortunately in Lao there are not really that many places of great interest and the few places of interest are well away from each other leaving you to make long bus trips on poor condition winding roads, or take expensive flights. In this respect Lao reminds me a bit of a scaled down version of Australia, where there are several sites of immense interest to tourists, such as Kakadu and Ayer's Rock and the Great Barrier Reef, but a bloody long way to go from one to the other.

I really enjoy the freedom of walking down Sois, stopping for a jack-coke wherever I spot some cute ladies and those open beer bars. Relaxing afternoons at the beach with a beer or breezer.

Would an umbrella suffice or should I be suiting up? I don't mind the odd rain but if it's gonna be bad, I'd rather go another month than not enjoy my trip.

Another thing, kinda off topic - I went to Hua Hin before, and walked through the open beer bars there, seemed really relaxing, and seen some nice looking girls. No Gogo bars, but plenty of pool tables and cheap drinks. Had a different feel to the pattaya bars.

Just wondering how much are the bar fines and how much do the girls expect for ST/LT. I didn't find out on my last trip, as I was with my TGF.

This trip was really a test in anticipation of a longer, upcoming trip to Pattaya in June where I was looking for a side trip to either PP or AC (following on from a March visit).  I have been a regular to Pattaya for 27 years and after lamenting the ‘good old days’ when things were less commercial, I started to think I should try other places.  I had been to Manila and Cebu before but that was a long time ago so my AC/Subic  trip was a start and I thoroughly enjoyed that- couldn’t get over the choice and availability of girls there but that’s the subject of another thread… I had heard of blokes going to Cambodia from Pattaya over the years and then more recently when returning to OZ, I sat next to a guy on the plane who had just got back from there and we got to chat…hence my interest was sparked and I thought I must go and check it out.

I’d got a lot of newbie  info from Philippine addicts forum for my AC/Subic trip so I similarly turned to the Cambodia sub-forum of Pattaya addicts for info about PP.  I found a wealth of information there for any newbie to Cambodia.  As I got closer to my departure date, I thought it would be nice to meet up with other board members and realising there was both a tourist and ex-pat scene, I was curious to get to know that.  I wasn’t looking for someone to hold my hand or anything as I like to do things my way but thought it would be good to catch up with some of the guys and get a few tips along the way.  So I decided to message rddpp and he kindly offered to meet up at the Sorya mall, street 51 on my arrival.

I ask this as I noticed there is a link on this web site to Pattaya Private Investigators and read on that website they do bar checks of girls.

Of course the easiest option is to be a butterfly and just spend a few days with each girl and have fun and be respectful, but if a guy was to meet a girl in a beer bar or go-go and spend some time with her and it appeared she was interested, what do you think the value would be of engaging an investigator to check on the girl and see if she is still taking bar fines and going with customers for ST or LT?

Do you think that if the outcome and report was positive that would provide some piece of mind if a guy liked a girl he had met.

And No this is not hyperthetical or about me, I noticed the link and was curious if this was a commonly used thing to provide information after guys go back to falang land?

Part 1: Hotels, condos and flights

Flight prices fluctuate often, sometimes even the same day. If you book too early, such as 6 months before going you will not get the best price. If you book within a month of going you will also find prices start to go up. I monitored prices over about 2 months before booking for both my trips and I found prices to be lowest between 2 and 4 months before going. For both my trips I paid £550 return from Scotland to Bangkok, flying with Emirates with only a 2-3 hour stopover in Dubai going and returning. The same flights were £725 in the 3-4 weeks prior to my departure date.

Flights and hotels are obviously more expensive in the Pattaya high season from November-February, which is one reason I have been twice in low season.

There is a huge choice of hotels and condos in both Jomtien and Pattaya. On trip 1, my hotel in the centre of Pattaya was around £300 for the 3 weeks. On my 2nd 3 week trip I paid £250 for a very nice condo in Jomtien, but as air-con is an extra in condos, I paid an additional £80 for this for the 3 weeks, so not much difference overall between the hotel and condo cost. You can pretty much pay a lot less or more than these figures, it depends on your budget, but both accommodations I stayed in were excellent at these prices.

My total flight and accommodation costs (excluding meals) for both 3 week trips was around the £850 mark, which I feel was very good.

Part 2: Bars, Girls and GoGos

Personally, I don't particularly like GoGo clubs. On my 1st trip I barfined in Alcatraz and it cost me 800baht, some expensive lady drinks and 2500 ST. She was certainly stunning, but was in far too big a rush to leave and get back to ST the next customer to make the experience worthwhile. The total cost to me of this Gogo girl was probably about 4,300 all in. Was it worth it? NO! After this experience I decided not to barfine any others from Gogos as I found bargirls provided a much better night all round at less than half the cost.

Pattaya is very quiet just now apart from Russian and Korean tourists, mainly families, so there are plenty girls available in all the bars. However, the crazy Thai logic is in operation..............the 'if no customers...increase the price, not decrease it' logic. On my most recent trip I sat in one bar in Soi Diana which I won't name for 2 hours with a girl who was attractive but not exceptionally so.There were no other barfining customers in the bar all night and about 8 girls available.

I bought 1 girl about 5 or 6 drinks then said to her at about 1am, 'ok I pay barfine now' assuming all would be fine. She then said LT would be 2000. I said why would I pay 2000 when I could go to W.Street and pay the same? She said 'up to you'. I then left the bar. So in a bar with no customers all night, she lost 1000-1500 plus the 300 bar fine. Makes no sense to me. The lesson of this story.........agree on a price for ST/LT before you bother buying drinks all night for a girl. I normally do..........but this time didn't and hence wasted time and money.

Part 3: Beach Road Coconut Bar.....the Cheap Charlie option

Firstly, there is actually no bar as such. The Coconut Bar is a name given to the stretch of Beach Road from about Soi 7 to Walking Street. I took a walk along this stretch of road several times on my recent trip and let me tell you.....there are some real diamonds there at times and many other attractive girls. There are also some freelancers from Bangkok there and some are stunning. Prices vary depending on the girl, but 700-1000 ST and 1500-2000 LT was quoted by 2 of the BK girls. They were the best value in town, late 20s, very attractive and as it turned out.....RED HOT! No barfines, no lady drinks, hence much less outlay than barfining from a bar when you include the cost of drinks, barfines etc.

On one night I was standing close to one of the stunning BK girls whilst a USA gent aged around 70 was trying to haggle her LT price of 1500 down to 800. She refused and he then said to her 'oh well looks like you won't be eating tonight'. I can't stand cretins like him and was tempted to make comment, but instead I went over to the girl and told her loudly so he would hear me that she was quite right not to drop to 800 and said I will give you 1500 maybe more no problem. She laughed and said' ok we go now', and off we went whilst the cheapest of charlies looked on in shock as we both laughed and walked away together. I had no problem giving her more than the 1500 in the morning because she was well worth it. There's no harm in some negotiation, but please do not try and insult the girls like this USA idiot did, people like him give all of us falangs a bad name.

If perusing along Beach Road, beware of ladyboys who may try to dip your pocket. The best thing to do is wear shorts with zipped pockets and only carry enough money for the night on you. Their tactic is often this...........one will step right in front of you feigning affection whilst another will try and dip you from the side. They tried it on me and failed miserably because I saw it coming and caught his arm close to my pocket. 

There are plenty nice girls and some stunners at times on Beach Road. If you're prepared to spend some time looking, you will find them! You will save a lot of money in barfines and lady drinks by doing this some nights as an alternative to being in the bars for hours.

Part 4: Rip-off Bank Charges

Most UK banks put expensive charges on using their debit cards abroad. When these are added to the mandatory £3 charge by the ATM owner in Thailand plus the currency conversion charge, you may find it will cost you about £12-14 to withdraw £100 and about £17 to withdraw £200. You would only need to make 5 or 6 withdrawals of £200 to be hit by charges close to £100.............a RIP OFF.

It is much cheaper to obtain a pre-paid Currency Card. Charges will be much less if you choose a good one such as CAXTON GLOBAL TRAVELLER, as there is no fee to get a card or maintain the account. there are also NO CHARGES with this card. All you pay on withdrawals is the Thai ATM fee of £3 and a currency conversion fee of about 2.75%. Much cheaper than using your UK bank's debit card. I recommend CAXTON because it was deemed best currency card by WHICH magazine and has the lowest charges. Many other currency cards have hidden charges, so save yourself hassle and cash and just go for the CAXTON one. They have an excellent very clear website which explains everything about their cards in detail, just google Caxton currency cards and it will come up.

I took enough cash with me to last the first week and the rest I kept on the above card which definitely saved me quite a bit of money.

Part 5: Avoiding SCAMS

Bangkok is much worse than Pattaya for scams but caution is always the best way.

1. Avoid shows such as 'ping pong shows'. You will be given free admission then charged exorbitant outrageous amounts for any drinks you buy.

2. Avoid Jet-Skis. This scam is well known but maybe not to all........after returning your jet-ski you may be shown damage on the machine and told you did it and you will be asked to pay for the damage. This can be amounts upwards of 10,000 baht. The damage of course was already there which is where the scam is. If you don't cough up they will turn nasty and the Police don't care.

3. Avoid shows and massage premises recommended by taxi drivers. These will be a rip-off and if you go, the driver gets a cut. In Bangkok I actually got out a taxi and walked away because I was sick of him ranting on about some massage place. Despite telling him I was not going, he still drove me there, which is when I got out the car. When he realised he wouldn't be getting the 300 baht fare he quickly changed his attitude and drove me to where I actually wanted to go!

4. If you visit the Grand Palace Temple in Bangkok, avoid the guys who stand outside and tell you the Temple is closed  (sometimes when it isn't) and try and send you on a 'free' tuk tuk ride and boat trip to another Temple across the river. When you arrive at the pier, they want 1000 baht per head for a 1 hour boat trip. Another SCAM.

5. If you visit a GOGO club, be prepared to drink enthusiastically at about 100 baht up for a small beer, or you will be on the radar. I was in Paradise Club Agogo in Soi Metro for 45 minutes and only drank 1 beer; I was asked twice by the waitress 'another beer?' I replied no thanks.The Manager then came over and asked if everything was alright. I said 'why wouldn't it be?' He was clearly palpitating because I wasn't drinking fast enough. After that, I walked out. Be prepared also for barfines of 800 baht and ladydrinks at 150 baht up. If you stay too long you will find 3 days money used up in 3 hours. Also bear in mind, some Gogo girls may have 3 or 4 ST customers in a night, so if you go in late on, you might be the 4th that night...........doesn't appeal to me thanks.

I would have asked this through "Phuket-Info" forum, but unfortunately....it is no more!

So anyway.....Anyone able to advise me on the best and least expensive way to get from Phuket International Airport to Bangla Rd-Patong? (About an hour drive I think?)

  This is what it feels like after ten trips...Except, I'm nowhere near as cool as Hugh. Or a binder.

    Hi!  I'm Xylanic, also known as AJ.  This will be a detailed report of my tenth adventure to LOS along with some untold stories from prior trips.  I was unsure if I would post this report and due to my reputation as taking forever to complete trip reports I'm sure some folks are skeptical already. However, I actually finished my eighth report pretty much in full and I thank everyone on the forum for making it my most read trip report I've ever done.  For those of you who know me you can likely skip this preface section but for those who don't or want a deeper look into my current state of mind after ten trips to the Land of Smiles I'd invite you to take a moment and walk into my world.

  Ten. Wow.  In Three years. My, has time flown by. It seems like just yesterday I was sitting in my den writing my first trip report and looking forward to my first adventure out of the United States. Flash forward and here I am, well known on the forum for better and worse and now having made dozens of close friends, male and female, board members and girls. I've made a few enemies as well and some girls will have nothing to do with me and my "butterfly" ways but such is life. Some board members continue to think I am arrogant and "All about AJ" and that's fine.  Inside, it couldn't be further from the truth as the people who really know me, like Skeeter, Cardinal or Viking, could attest to, but such as it is. I'm going to take a moment to tell you about myself and my trips....

First.....

  I'm not confident in myself.  I like making fun of myself and don't mind others doing so (Look at my profile for christs sake, haha). I don't usually come off as that in LOS or on the forum but inside I am.  I lack self confidence and make up for that by a loud style of clothing(Usually urban style, wide brim hats, etc), extroverted behavior and at times being rather annoying. I'm well aware of my faults as I have spent a decade in Human Resources and one of my largest faults is my strive to be accepted.  I have only been in one fight and my life and despise confrontation.  I dislike conflict, including on these forums and usually shy away from it. I attempt to be a peacemaker and at times it backfires horribly but at the end of the day I don't want problems with anyone and only want to help people out. Sadly, my "character" of Xylanic often ends up causing problems even though I try my hardest not to .  At the end of the day, I only want to be on good terms with everyone and spend way too much time "thinking too mutt" as the Thai girls say.

  I'm 33 years old (Almost, in September).  I travel to Pattaya about every three months. I am blessed with a decent paying but stressful job as a General manager for a large retailer in the states and due to almost 15 years with the company I have senority in vacation time and get nearly 2 months a year off in vacation which is very unusual for the United States. I live in Washington, D.C. so Pattaya is a long, long ways but by now I am used to the flight.  Having been involved in Human Resources for so long I subscribe to the theory that having a vacation every three months is a great idea.  Therefore, I do so.  I have avoided moving to Pattaya so far as I believe your vacation spot should not be your home after a stint living in Orlando in the past after I used to love Disney World.

  Ironic, huh?

  I was unsure I'd post this report because of a few reasons, the biggest being that I have had half a dozen major problems with girls because of my reports.  I've had my life threatened, had angry phone calls at 3am to the states, had some scary confrontations in Pattaya, etc.  I don't post nude pics as I feel it's disrespectful and can get me in some major trouble and try everything I can to not be disparaging. That being said, the mere fact I rate most of the girls I go with and state where you can meet them has got me in trouble.  I've said this every report and will continue to do so but I urge you not to give these reports to girls.  It only causes more people not to post trip reports or move to advanced.

  I don't post my reports in advanced. Some board members think it's because I want the attention but at the end of the day it's really not.  It's because if it wasn't for posts by true board legends like Johnny Wilde and Bagel (I'm not a legend, despite the jokes and will never be one, haha)  I would have never gone to Pattaya. They posted on the open forums. I was inspired and followed in their footsteps.  I truly want to keep the city as a mongers destination and to do so will require convincing more people to travel to Pattaya. The biggest flattery I have ever had was board members who said they made their trip to Pattaya because of my trip reports. I truly felt honored and thanked them.

  I'm honest.  Everything I post has actually happened. I don't just keep it to my crazy nights out, gangbangs, orgies, supermodel girls, massive drinking sprees...I talk about the bar fights, the nights going home alone, the confrontations, the loneliness, the STDS (Yes, read the prior reports) the times I've been robbed, etc.  Nobody's perfect and I'm one of the least perfect out there. I've had a lot of ups and downs in Pattaya and I try to be honest about all of them. When you get home, however, your worst moment in Pattaya is often better than some of your best back home.

  I enjoy short times and usually don't do long times. This changed a bit in this report but I still didn't fall in love .  The running joke is everyone falls in love and after ten trips I have yet to do so or ever have a Thai girlfriend. I've never had a desire to do so. Back home, I've been engaged three times and after three failures I pretty  much gave up.  I have no kids and have no desire to ever have kids. I enjoy the freedom and am also honest enough to admit I am selfish and that is a major reason I do not want to have children anytime soon.

  This sums me up in a nutshell...Some know me as the crazy and heavy drinking Xyleezy, doing way too many short times in a crawl, etc...Some know me as that guy who is passed out in a gogo and throwing up everywhere (Yes, it happened this trip too).  Some know me as that quiet, introspective guy who doubts himself way too much. I'm all of that but at the end of the day I write these reports to share my experiences and hopefully advise both veterans and newbies of what mistakes and successes I had.  I also like throwing parties and hosting major crawls and do so on every trip...I usually pay for the food and any fees and have spent tens of thousands of baht on parties and don't regret any of it.  I also like showing newbies around Pattaya and I'm sure many a newbie or former newbie can attest I do a good job at it and don't scam anyone .

  I will be throwing a major birthday party in September 2013 with details coming and promise lots of craziness...I have brought dozens and dozens of board members to places like the Castle (Biggest bondage club in patts) Ladyboy bars, hardcore gogos where fisting is the norm and more...and will continue this trend this fall.  I've always loved this forum and donated not just money and parties but probably well over a hundred hours of my time writing and detailing advice threads and my reports to help inspire others. I'm a writer, not a photographer so although I will have photos I tend to rely on the beauty of the written word. Some of you may rightly ask why I decided not to go to Wembley with my club is there but it's mainly down to having a limited income, with most of it going to supporting my kids and in my LOS savings account!

Anyway, it is an amazing achievement for a club our size to be in this position. With our gates only 4000-5000 and already punching above our weight in this division, let alone the Championship, but our manager Gary Johnson, has utilised the loan market well, and has an eye for talent. He took Paddy Madden from Carlisle for £20k and he has become the leagues leading goalscorer this season.

Having come this far, defeat really isn't an option, as some of our contracted players will almost certainly be cherry picked, and a lot of the loanees sent back to their respective clubs, and Gary Johnson begin left to rebuild most of the team. Next season could then be a relegation battle. It happened last time when Blackpool beat us in 2007. We survived and then spent the next few seasons battling to stay up. This season has been an amazing turnaround.

If we do go up, I believe most of our players will stay, but the task is then finding the extra money to fund the team. We have got this far on an £800,000 playing budget, the smallest in league one. We will need a MINIMUM £6-8 MILLION for the Championship. No doubt the TV money will come in handy, but it's an awfully big step.

We joke amongst ourselves that 11 points is the first target, beating Derby's worse ever total in the Premier league!

Anyone who likes lower division football the game is on Sky Sports here in UK (1 or 2, not sure where it's been allocated) It's also been advertised as being shown in Irish Rovers in a couple of hours time.

How do you raise these issues  without appearing rude? Are the girls used to hearing 'terms of trade' or do you have to dress up your conditions in some way in order to not cause an icy response?

I had my first experience of this yesterday (after 1 1/2 years of no problems) and am wondering if it is possible / practical to put a tube into the back tire (which seems to be the one that would usually go)?

Has anybody here done that on a motorbike (put a tube into a previously tubeless tire)? Can it be done? Would most motorcycle shops likely be able to handle something like that? Would it be a fairly simple process?

The tire itself seems to show no damage (no nail or cut) but apparently just unseated. Would like to avoid getting caught that way again and if putting a tube into the back tire would make the tire more robust, I'd be interested in trying it.

I needed somewhere to stay for one night and happened upon this place. I asked if the had a room available & WiFi, the receptionist said yes. Sadly the 600 baht rooms were taken so I had a 450 baht alternative. There was a requirement to pay a 500 baht key card deposit and they made sure my id. was well photocopied. I was given a receipt & told that if I didn't produce it, and the key card the next day, I'd have to forfeit the deposit. The room was functional but well used, and could have done with a good clean ... seen better days. The bed was hard & cheaply covered, I didn't dare to look at the mattress. TV & DVD player provided. Small fridge but no bottled water. The water pressure in the bathroom was low, even though I was on the first floor. Still, I guess you get what you pay for.

First thing I tried in the room was the WiFi but the strength of the signal was poor to very poor. No connection obtained so I went down to the bar. The receptionist was rather unfriendly & more or less said I was stupid not being able to get connected. She connected no problem, and so I said it doesn't work in the room, which was probably less than 50m from the bar area. She just said the signal was 50-50 in the room & wafted me away. I was never able to get connected in the room, only in the bar area itself. Damn, I should have checked this before I paid out the money.

Throughout my 24-hour stay I saw the bar/reception staff a few times only, as I decided to use the back way in/out to avoid them. I can't say they smiled or tried to engage me once. I guess they figured I wasn't gonna sit at the bar & buy them drinks all night. They were right!

I checked out this morning & got my deposit back. I didn't expect them to thank me for my custom & hope to see me again, and I wasn't disappointed. Not a place I'd return to or recommend.

Given the activity of this board, am I right to assume there is a big expat crowd there? Where do you guys live, and which location do you recommend? My only requirements are to be within around 1km of the beach, and the same distance to a gym.

As a silent observer for a couple of months now, I wanted to finally seek the collective counsel of the helpful folk on these here virtual boards.

Firstly, brilliant forum - so informative, expansive and the community which seems to have built up is really comforting to utter newbies like my terrible self.

I am in the midst of, BMs, a rather circular-thinking process which is preventing what could be my maiden LOS journey.

Any advice and feedback - comments such as “stop over-thinking it at get yerself here” - are all really appreciated. Genuinely, this is a great forum and there is oodles of information swimming throughout these virtual pages, so I promise to (try) not to ask dumb questions.

So basically it goes something like this:

I was planning to come to Phuket with a mate in early June for a little sunshine, sand, and gentle sexual decadence. Sadly, he’s bailed, just as I was warming up to the idea, but as we did discuss it, I suggested: 

“Well, if we are going to travel all the way to Thailand, then I hear there are more decedent places to try.”

And then we decided on a combination of Bangkok, then Phuket because we wanted to do a 50:50 beach/filth holiday. 

But he bailed and so I am left scouring these here PA boards to help me decide on a virgin solo LOS trip and watching mental Thailand documentaries on YouTube. 

A separate friend of mine - who I blame entirely for instilling this burning LOS desire in my mind - has said repeatedly over the last year: “You MUST go to Thailand before you get a girlfriend - you won’t be able to then and you’ll wish you had but you won’t realise it you twat.” 

Like many of my married mates, he lives for living vicariously through my sexual exploits - failures AND otherwise. 

So since the weekend I have been thinking about a solo trip to LOS, or holiday to Greece or some shit with my remnants of remaining single friends...

I thought if I am going solo, and a LOS virgin, I may be overwhelmed by Bangkok and Pattaya, the epicenters of planet earth’s filth.

Phuket, even though those in the know say its tame, overpriced and unexciting, for a LOS virgin it might be massive.  And Phuket is a kind of 50:50 beach/filth place more easily, from what I read.

But if I go to Phuket, knowing what I have read here and elsewhere about the epicenter of the Adult world (Pattaya) and Bangkok, then I will be lying on some wanky beach thinking: “Fuck, I wish I went to Pattaya.”

So maybe I should go balls out and take the solo, virgin Pattaya plunge. Obviously taking in Bangkok’s delights first.

And then I remind myself of my how I might not like the daily intensity of it all. Fucking goldilocks....

I think, basically, in my annoying mind, this would all be much simpler if I had a mate to make my debut with - I am no “lone wolf” as you call it here.

I can think of a handful of people who I would love to come over Pattaya with, but they are all married (and utterly jealous I have the option), and had I been able to could come over with one of them, I would never have even wrote this diatribe.

So, basically, if needing a wingman is the single largest thing holding me back, dont let it because there is this forum right? 

I am obviously going to fear or regret whatever decision I make in hindsight - BOOM! (no pun intended)

Based on my own personal experiences and observations, as well as reading the stories of others, I have decided to come up with a list of signs to look for if you want to know if a Thai (bar) girl truly likes you as a person and not because you are a suck.., whoops, I mean, sponsor. I should clarify that this topic does not apply to any random bargirl that you barfine on a holiday. It is for those bargirls that you have been with for some time, and you think she ‘loves’ you, and you want to take it to another level.

Signs to look for if a Thai girl likes you.

If we could get a baht for every time a guy asks on a message board if his Thai (bar) girl is "different," I'd be a millionaire by now.

How can one tell if a girl truly digs him and is not simply stringing him along like a helpless puppy dog and eventually sucking him dry?

As they say, this is not exactly rocket science.

The tricky part is that these Thai (bar) girls are such great actors, that sometimes the line between reality and fantasy gets blurred.

I will also state that many guys are particularly vulnerable as they may have had nothing but bad luck in relationships back home. Perhaps they are older like me, and when confronted with a young, early 20 something bar girl, their brains get scrambled and all common sense goes out the window. Perhaps in their hearts they know something seems “off,” yet their little head takes over and they act like young infatuated teenagers.

That said, I feel there are a few signs that I think can separate the fake expressions of "love" over the internet and true attraction and affection:

1. How she reacts in your presence.

E-mail and chatting with each other thousands of miles away is one thing, but the key is how she acts when she is with you. Is she genuinely happy to be with you at all times, always curious about you and wanting to be near you. Does she initiate conversation, wanting to know more about your background and life in general. A girl that really likes you will be intensely curious about you and your past, your past relationships, your job, the list is endless. Does she touch you (not in the fake bargirl way). Does she want to be close to you at all times.

Or does your bargirl just sit there and fiddle with her cell phone while with you in a restaurant or out in public. No interest at all in initiating or holding conversation, even when you try to initiate talk. Looking bored, no smile, would rather be anywhere than with you. Doesn't want to walk too close to you lest others think you are a "couple." If ‘your girl’ shows these signs, a sudden change from the happy girl you chatted with online, it is not very promising.

2. Taking photos.

Does she want to take photos of you or you together on HER personal cell phone or camera? More importantly, does she post them on Facebook or other social networks? It is a very powerful statement when a girl chooses to publicly post pictures of you two together on Facebook as a couple.

Or does she not have a single picture of you posted anywhere on her social network sites lest, gasp, her friends know about you the stranger. Is she happy to take pictures of everything but you? Not a good sign in my opinion.

I will mention that this isn’t in and of itself fool proof. For example, a guy I know was dating a bargirl. The girl posted pictures of them together out in public on her Facebook page and publicly announced they were in a relationship. Yet behind his back, she was cheating on him with another guy. BUT, this girl had other negative quality traits also, mainly, she was 1000 percent a receiver and never a giver.

3. Being a receiver.

One of the most important factors, if not THE most important one, is she a receiver or a giver? Does she give you gifts or do meaningful things for you from time to time? The monetary value of the gift is NOT important, it is the THOUGHT that ultimately counts. A 50 baht gift from a girl to you can be the worth of a million bucks in the way it makes you feel appreciated. And it doesn't necessarily have to be physical gifts either. Does she cook or bring food for you? Little things like that.

Or is she, like most typical bargirls, only a receiver and never a giver? Happily receives money time after time from you, happily receives gifts you sent from overseas, yet can't be arsed to pay your 10 baht fee on a song taew ride? Never buys a single gift item for you, doesn't do anything special. Again, I have to differentiate here from a typical holiday barfine bargirl and a bargirl who you THINK likes/loves you. I obviously don't expect a bargirl you barfined on a holiday night to be spending anything on you on gifts or the like.

This one can be diabolical because many foreigners have been 'corrupted' into thinking that one way of expressing one's love for a Thai girl is by lavishing her with money (thanks "Thailand Fever"). So these guys blindly throw money at "their" girl as if money was going out of fashion, buying gifts, gold, fine dining, etc., and yet are oblivious to the fact that they never, ever receive anything back from "their" girl. Not even a bottle of water. Actions speak louder than words, and if there isn't some form of reciprocation from a Thai girl in any shape or form, I can't think of anything more disrespectful towards a guy than that.

Think of it this way. I bet these same Thai (bar) girls who are straight receivers when it comes to blind foreigners, turn to givers when it comes to their Thai boyfriends. These bar girls spend the money the foreigners lavish on them on their Thai boyfriends. Treating them to restaurants, karaoke, alcohol, a night on the town, you name it. Who do you think the girl truly ‘loves’ in these situations?

Final Thoughts

As an example, I want to mention one of my ex Thai girlfriends (non bargirl). She constantly wanted to chat with me and talk to me on the phone when I was back in the states. Of course money was never mentioned, even though her family was also from Isaan and poor (she worked in a hospital as a receptionist). When we were together, she was always by my side and wanted to hold my hand, quite special as she is not a bargirl and is aware of Thai society. She was constantly buying me gifts when I went to see her, sometimes clothing, other times food items. Once she even cooked for me, and another time bought a return bus ticket trip to Bangkok for me. During one of my trips, she even went through the trouble of asking her employer for several days off just to take a bus ride to meet me in Bangkok, all at her expense and she never mentioned the cost. Find a bargirl you think you are in "love" with who would be arsed to do any of that. All very meaningful as my ex was only making about 10,000 baht a month to support her family with.

Yes, I’m sure many of you are aware of these traits. And I’m also sure many of you are or have been in relationships where the girl exhibited little to none of these positive character traits. Perhaps you are ‘happy’ with and have no problems at all that your girl is always a receiver and never a giver. More power to those of you in such relationships.

For the rest of us, we actually DO desire and cherish a relationship based on mutual love, respect, and attraction, not a lop-sided one based on how much money you can throw at a girl to keep her “happy,” always bickering about her or her money grubbing family. We never want to sell ourselves short and lose all our self respect in relationships, and excuse it on Thai “culture.” We understand that while there may or may not be some differing factors based on culture, women are women the world over, and love and respect are universal languages.

Now I don't have anything against ladyboys' or those who choose to pursue them. This question is aimed towards regular go-go bars that everyone loves to visit and the employment of a post-op ladyboy. So like the title suggests, is it possible for a post-op ladyboy to be employed by a go-go bar or even a beer bar? It might be a stupid question but I just have to ask it.
