Personal experience with B O A, in Florida.

I can do a international wire transfer to my K-bank account. 1-2 biz days, but
$45 USD per transfer (not sure of cap) Always send USD to Thailand, and let K-bank
do conversion. B O A touts it easy to the USD to TBH but the give a SHITE rate, plus
the $45 USD fee. That will cost you about 5% on a 1,000 USD transfer.
For me still cheaper using a fabric money pouch and bring cash, then shop around
Pattaya for best exchange rate, then deposit my TBH in my K-bank debit acct.

Please note that if you lose your ATM card, it CAN be used to buy
stuff at Big-C, T-L, etc with only a signature.

A PIN NUMBER IS ONLY NEEDED FOR A CASH
TRANSACTION

Wow, good information regarding a lost ATM card from Kasikorn, I didn't know that. Not that I doubt you, but how do you know this? As for bringing fabric (never heard that term, pretty cool), that's exactly what I do, but you can only bring 10K USD right? My problem (not really a problem, lol) is that I plan on staying up to 6 months this time.

Why not open a Schwab account in USA? They refund the ATM fee, world wide, at the end of the month.

If you have an account with Bangkok Bank, you can set up ACH transfers and do them from your computer.

Hi, I want to personally thank you for that info. Got it set up and sent. Only 3 dollars. There are limits but still great option. I looked and looked for that link on my own through Bangkok bank site and never found it.   Thanks PC

I have also heard that Schwab is a very good way to go.

Moneybookers is also cheap way to transfer money to Thai account. Just deposit money to MB in own online-bank in real time and then withdraw the money to Thai bank. It's not the fastest, maybe take one week but it's very cost effective. I think the price is about 5€ per transaction.

I have used Paypal on a number of occasions to send money to people in Thailand.  But if you want to use the Green Dot money card (prepaid money you can add to your paypal account) and not take from your personal bank account, you eventually run into problems.  Green Dot/Moneypak and paypal wants all kinds of personal information.  Maybe they think I am a terrorist or drug cartel kingpin when I want to send $100 USD to Thailand.

I then tried AAA (American Automobile Assoc) Visa card.  It is a prepaid card.  Great, $4.95 and can add money from a local AAA office for free.  They say you can access the money via any ATM worldwide and also use it as a credit card.  To access cash from an ATM it costs $3 USD and 150 baht for the Thai ATM.  OK, that might work.  I sent one card to a friend in Thailand and when they tried to use it, it would not work.  I called AAA Visa and they told me  --  Sorry   Thailand is an exempt country.  The AAA Visa WILL NOT work in in Thailand.  SOB's !!!!!

I have always carried cash with me to LOS and then deposited it in a Kasikorn Bank with an ATM card.  Works well.  But for a long stay requiring more than $5000 or $10,000 that will not work very well.

I am still looking for a good and cheap way to transfer $300 to $500 USD to Thailand.
