So googles latest update came out last month and things are looking pretty chaotic. My main money site has lost more than half it's traffic and gone from $25-30 a day average down to $10. My other MNS site seems unaffected. I have been using the MNS site techniques on the new pages I have made on main site and they are still fucked so no idea whats going on there.

Anyone else get hit and how bad? Most IM forums I have seen are still confused as fuck about what to do to move forward. I'm thinking of dusting off my old CPA accounts and playing with paid traffic till the dust settles. Anyone found anything solid yet that still seems to work after penguin?

My main stragegy has been tier 1 quality 2.0's and quality articles with a second tier of 2.0's and shitty articles linking to first tier. Blast the shit out of second tier with various things. This still work for anyone? I'm thinking lack of anchor diversity got me but then that should affect MNS too.

Would love to hear of anything that still works for you guys doing this everyday.

Penguin hit my two largest earners. Luckily, I am still getting lots of traffic from longtail keywords on one site, but the other is hopeless.

I have tried to build new links to the penalized pages in the hopes of diluting over optimized anchor text. So far, I am using cheap automated backlinking methods, like wikis, social bookmarks, and article marketing. I am using a large portion of raw urls and also generic anchors. Who knows if this will help. I don't expect any improvements until the next iteration of the Penguin algorithm is released.

I am not waiting around for this to work or not work. So I have decided to rebuild my penalized sites. I already have one new site sitting on the first page already and pulling in money. I just launched another site today and will begin to SEO it.

I am sure you may have come across it in your research. Although, the author found some pretty strong correlations, no one has developed a solid Penguin proof plan, because there has been no way as of yet to test anything (Penguin hasn't been updated yet).

That being said, I have taken the anchor over optimization theory to heart in my new link building. With my new properties I am focusing on high quality unique tier one properties from blogs on private networks and Web 2.0s that I control. I then spam the crap out of these properties with Wikis, blog posts, blog comments, social bookmarks and forum profiles.

i try to keep my keyword anchor text to below 40% of my backlinks and use about 40% raw URLs and 20% generic anchor texts, e.g., click here, more info, website, mainpage, etc.

I have found my keywords much easier to rank for than in the past.

Many of my small EMD MNS were not effected, but these bring only a small portion of my revenue.

Thanks for the input. I have been trying to dilute my anchors as well by going back and adding heaps of raw url links to pages that used to do well. Hopefully I will see a result from that soon. I'm now getting over 25% of traffic from referals as a lot of shitty forum posts and stuff are ranking #1 now after googles shuffle. Easy enough to go in and add more links there. I'm guessing my MNS site was too small to be affected or didn't have enough backlinks to trigger the filter.

Fingers crossed achor diluting works.

Site is officially fixed. Added fuck all new content. Diluting anchors was the key. Now to pretend the last few months never happened and start growing it again.

Good to hear it worked for you. i have one site that got hit and still never recovered even though i dilluted the anchors too. maybe i ust need to keep working on it but been busy with other projects. Anyway, well done.

We were hit big time. Went from first page on the main keyword to page 4. I've talked to so many SEO specialist and seems like we will be changing the domain name because we have so fucked up back link profile that we will not be able to change that. We have so much paid traffic though that it didn't really felt like a big dip in revenue to get some of the organic SEO taken away. It's nice to be on the first page though so we will change domains.

It wiped out over a 100 of my sites. Went from making good money to 0 overnight.
Google knocked me down on the previous updates but i managed to get back up. Not this one. It was a knock out punch.
But I have since found ppc.
I will never go back to SEO and trying to rank for organic search.

Facebook ads is the shit. Most of our customers come from there. It's pretty expensive in Europe, but I once had a business in Indonesia and we could buy a new customer (not click, but customer) for something around 0.15 usd.
