My preference would be August Suites as I don't like walking up the side street leading to April Suites late at night. There was no street lighting their, and it can be quiet late at night.
Also consider Areca Lodge, I stayed there in May for 1,600 Baht (€40) including breakfast a night.

August suites bigger and nicer pool and gym
Better location but I do believe you can walk through
August Suites to get to and from April Suites.
April suites newer rooms but much smaller lobby
Cant beat August Suites location for mine.

The room was new and very clean. It was certainly enough space for me. I did have a couple of issues with the hotel that I feel we're petty on their part for either not providing or not addressing. One issue is there was no fan in the room. No ceiling fan or oscillating fan. So it was either the A/C or the heat of the open balcony door. There was no DVD player. I asked about it and they said one was available for 300 baht per week. I got it but was not happy to pay extra for it. I just left the Queen Vic and they had everything in their rooms for less money.
The shower stall was small and configured in such a way that while showering, when I turned around to rinse off I would bump the water shutoff and change the temperature of the water usually making me freeze or get burnt.
Also in the bathroom there were the little bottles with the shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion, but they had no small bar of soap to just wash your hands, a small item but still an item that I thought they were skimping on especially since every hotel I've ever stayed in had them.
There were a couple of other small items like that that just seemed to be lacking like I had to ask the front desk to bring me a coffee maker to heat hot water for my tea, no charge for that, but still had to ask.
Nice place but for the money I'm trying somewhere else this year. I was thinking the August suites as the location is great. Yes they were very guest friendly and took Id's from the girls. Had no problems.
So all in all, stay at the August Suites or one of the many other places available in Patts.

I visited both hotels in may and really liked both of them. But if i had to choose, i would take August Suites. Has everything bigger and bed is huge there:).....
Yes that is true. I did stay 5 times in August Suites and I liked it there very much. It started to be very popular and so the price went up. Last time I was in november 2011 there for 1499THB/night city view room. In may 2012 they wanted 1700THB/night which was too much for me.
Honestly 1550THB/night for April is not really a hot deal, just add up 150THB and you get the August Suites.
But on the other side I would always recommend August Suites, as the service is good.

Is it a good area around august Suites? Plenty of places to eat, massage etc or do you need to travel to Buakhao?
Yes. It is situated on the Central Road (Klang). In 2 minutes you are on the crosssection to the second road (Baht Taxi). You reach Soi Buakhao by crossing the road.

I am a light sleeper.
Me too. It is quiet and the walls are strong enough, so that you can hardly hear your neighbours. But at the moment there is a construction towards the "city view" rooms. The pool view room is definitely the best choice.

It seems that August Suites is winning hands down although that does surprise me a little as April Suites is the most booked hotel by Addicts on Agoda.
For a quick plug please remember that if you book either through our Agoda account we (Addicts) get paid and we need all the support we can get. Our links are below

Good info guys, especially about the walls at April Suites.
Well, maybe the walls in April Suites are still better than in the Pattaya Bay Resort 5555

, the walls are thin in April suites so you can hear whoever is in the next room

I stayed in April Suites for 3 weeks in February. I didn't hear anything at all from adjacent rooms. Perhaps i was lucky with my neighbours. It is a very quiet location. I had a Deluxe Room which was big enough.
The rooftop pool is small but nice, and I didn't get biiten by those little bitey black flies that usually attack me at pools at ground level. I thought it was a good hotel and easy to get to anywhere on the Baht Buses.

The budget is a bit tight for August Suites. Similar good rooms but without pool you can find in Citin Loft for roughly 1000THB.
actually citin loft does have a pool , it has an indoor pool near reception i stayed there last year and there are 3 pictures of it on the link you posted

Yes Citin Loft has a indoor pool. But at the time I was there (the time when @flamme wanted to stay in Pattaya) the pool was closed for renovation. Maybe it is opened right now, but I do not know that.
