Guess I have to take the boss (wife) to Laos for a  type O Visa. I have my retirement Visa already with multi reentry so I OK. What bus stations have buses heading to Laos?

Any info will be a great help.

Why go by bus? It is a long way by road.

Either fly from Swampy with Lao Airlines or Don Muang with Air Asia.

Alternatively take the overnight train from Bangkok to Nong Khai, & tuk tuk to the border at Friendship Bridge.

If you elect bus then will take longer than a flight from UK to swampy..whoever AVOID the 'yellow' bus you will suffer a DVT in such hard seated cramped condition.

If you don't want people's advice, don't ask for it.   :Think1:  Colin and Tweedle also live upcountry in Thailand and I'd take their suggestions to use plane or train under advisement.  :Dunno:

The obvious solution is to take a bus from Pattaya to one of the main bus terminals in Bangkok, then another bus from there to Nong Khai. Who knows how much longer that will take (with transfers and stops), and it'll certainly be more uncomfortable than the other two suggestions.

Give me a break Buffalo. There is a bus station with buses .5km from my condo going to Laos. Finding that bus station took a while because it was not coming up on Google searches. We asked a few foreigners who took the bus and they sent us in the right direction.  Also, why in the world would I go all the way to Bangkok and then take a bus going to Laos?

Remember, I asked for advise on the bus system, in Pattaya and not on planes or trains.

In total agrrement with you Lolo, why can't people just answer the question.

You can take bus to Poipet, then to Siem Reap then to Laos and up to Vientiene with a side trip  to Saigon as well if you like.

Or build your own plane with water floats and take off from Jomtien beach and land in the Maekhong river upstream , tie up at one of those riverside restaurants and have a beer while ur girl gets her Visa.

I usually take Air Asia from U-Tapao to Udon (around 600Bht) and take the international bus from there to Vientiane

(around 100Bht) . Lot cheaper than flying to Vientiane and even cheaper than taking the bus from Pattaya to

Vientiane (if there even is one) .

Jerry may have the answer, Utapao to Udon. Much cheaper and faster to fly from UTP then DMK. Much better then long time on bus, believe me!

There are minibuses that go to Laos for Visa runs. Any tour operator should be able to book it for you.

You can get a Thai Visa issued at both Savannakhet and Vientiene. Do you know which city in Laos you are going to?
