afternoon lads

ive been looking at getting the missus over to the uk for a while now just on a tourist visa to which ive had sum great advice and info from you all on here but now the missus is thinking about quiting her job and wants to further her education and study here.so its all a new ball game to me.

whats the score on getting students visas,does it still mean she can only visit for 6 months and then have to return home  for 6 months?

would they doubt her student visas genuine cause shes in a relationship with me and would stay with me?

be interesting to know the answer on this ,many people come to the uk on student visa,s from outside the eu,not sure but think you need to be excepted by a college first , scam colleges been set up etc is a big problem for immigration here at the mo

If they are on a legitimate course (i.e. a full-time course, from a recognised institution, such as a University, leading to an accredited qualification, such as a degree) then they should be able to get a visa for the duration of their studies, relatively painlessly.  The institution will generally have some sort of International Office that will help with the paperwork, and usually won't charge anything for this.  The person will need proof of an offer of a place, proof of available funds - for tuition fees and to live, and proof of any entry qualifications (e.g. English language certification).  Also, the home office has been cracking down recently upon "Students" who get into the country, register for a course, and then are never seen again.  Now, the institution needs to regularly check that the students are actually in attendance, and keep the Home Office informed about any change of status (such as not turning up, not paying fees etc.).

Student visas are only usually issued for full-time study, to students paying the fees for International Students (which are *much* higher than the fees for EU students, BTW).  If your wife is genuinely interested in being a full-time student, has the funds and the qualifications, then talk the the University or College.  With their support getting a visa should then be a doddle.

On the subject of scam colleges - leeds is right, there have been a number of scandals in recent years.  However, they are very well know.  The people running these outfits are now mostly in jail or on the run, and the rules have been tightened up a lot.  There is now a lot of direct government oversight of this procedure.  However, the whole business of attracting fee-paying students to the UK is huge, and the government is promoting it rather than standing in the way of it.
