IMHO, EMD's only work on low competition KW's. An EMD will get you a quick bump. Long term you need site content and SEO. That being said, "Fredswheelbarrows.com" Would not be a good domian for baby swings. Somthing clean and simple with a reference to the product you are promoting.

Rankings are a big equation with many components. Having your keywords in domain name will be a HUGE help in ranking that domain name. Obviously if it's competitive, just your domain will not be enough. But that doesn't negate the fact that you have a huge competitive edge if you try to compete in this keyword ranking.
That said, people have caught on to this a long time ago. Most EMDs in competitive (ie: profitable) niches have been locked up already. They are really hard to find these days.

Search engines still prefer EMD's, it works with competitive keywords.

Presuming you aren't selling a product here is a method that is a little different to the usual ideas you often hear about.
Create something, anything.
For example an infographic.
Next research a list of sites that are relevant to your niche. (Ideally hundreds if not thousands)
Find out the webmaster contact details and send them a personal message telling them what you have and allowing them to use it in return for a link. (There is software that can allow you to do this far quicker than manually doing it.)
I would stagger this because you don't want to be suddenly receiving a large number of links (Google etc. might think this is dodgy).
A large number of sites won't bother to even reply to you but if what you have created is good and useful it may well go viral.

That's exactly the kind of thing I was talking about, good example.
Yeah it will take a bit of time to create stuff like that but, with the possibility of going viral well worth it imo, a lot better use of your time than spamming blogs and forums etc.

Always go for .com or .net or .org only. If exact is not available then just add a word at the beginning or the end and you got yourself a domain as good as an EMD. Eg, thebabyswings.com or babyswingsguide.com.
If you have your own product/brand then use brand/product + emd, so 'clinebabyswings.com' where 'cline' is brand name. But do not use a well known brand name that is not your own or you will get a legal notice to remove the site from the owner.
All those parked EMD domains that people are asking a fortune for are waste of time unless the domain name is old (2 or 3 years +) which also give you a competitive advantage as an older domain has more trust. Otherwise just get your own $8 custom EMD.

You could put a link in your signature on pattaya addicts like mine!
I think a good place to get backlinks is fiverr.com there's people on there who claim they will post thousands of articles with a link in them. I haven't used any yet, but i think i will give some of them a try. every service on there is only 5 dollars. thats what i spend on lunch most days!
Now I've actually made two websites, and got some ads on them i need to get more links, and I don't really know how. still havent made a penny yet, but its been an interesting creative endevour for me, I haven't done anything creative for years. And this is the thread that inspired me to start, so i'd just like to say thanks to everyone whos contributed, and if any of you experienced guys could take a look through my website and see if i'm doing things right, then much appreciated

That is a new idea for me, making infographics for backlinks. Whats the name of the program that can automate the process of sending it out?

There are some good ones out there, but by the time you find one you're $200 in the hole on Fivver with nothing but junk to show for it.

dont let anything stop you and never give up. There will be many setbacks and many hard times but these are trials that sort the men from the boys.
P.S yo need to look at the embedded code on your countdown clock i think you are missing something think you need to start at <object blah blah blah value=189438 "" etc etc> and include the </object>

Amusingly enough, I only learned about Build My Rank about a month prior to the apocalypse so I never got to try it.
My sites were pretty much unaffected. While I do pay for links, link wheels, social bookmarking, blah, blah, blah, I try to go for the stuff that has a semblance of quality and looks realistic.
I do see a lot of random crappy sites ranking high for a lot of money terms after this update. It is laughable. For every person who lost their rankings someone gained that ranking. And some people have probably figured out what to do under the new system already.
Personally, I'm focusing my efforts on more G+ plusses and Facebook likes. Anyone have a source for either that looks realistic? (from normal looking accounts, not from clearly fake/spam accounts.)

It is all about knowing what you do best anyway. The options you could have and how much you could get will ultimately depend on what you know and what you do.
