I am planning a trip with my Thai gf this christmas
We are planning to visit Koh Samui for 5 days including new years eve.

Can anyone recommend any good hotels for a reasonable price.
I was thinking between 2000 - 3000 baht.

We have stayed at Vanda House three times and the price is 600THB per night for a room with enough space for 4 SUV's side by side and a balcony front and back and free wifi. It is on the main Chawaeng Road in Lamai. Across the road and down a track and you are on the beach but a bit of a walk into the centre and all the lady bars and restaurants. Loads of bike taxis or rentals. Baht buses pass all the time going either to Chawaeng or the main town. Down the road is a new Tesco Lotus and plenty of cheaper Thai type restaurants. Way better than the posh places. We have had some of our best food on the night food stalls next to the centre bars. Loads of massage places nearby and you can get more if you want (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). You can find it through Google and contact them about what will be a busy time. Hope you enjoy yourself. Chawaeng is more for couples.

Baan Chaweng Beach Resort & Spa. Excellent central location, nice rooms. But booking this late, good luck finding something available. We were thinking of 5 nights but including BKK Air expensive rates it would have been close to 30,000 baht for 5 or so days, reverted to the Pattaya option and staying at Baboona for much less than half that.

Samui is nice but Xmas/NY it is a ripoff.

Chaweng Palace hotel...get motorbike so can monger in Lamai beach too...although suggest to stay the night there if drinking too much.
