It all depends on where you are going to get married? But I suppose you will be getting married in Thailand. I did it myself but explaining it is a lot of effort so i'll give you a link to the wikipedia website which reflechts correctly how to get married in thailand.

One last thing, make sure you really want to marry, make sure you know the girl very well. Or you'll end up like me in the middle of a divorce.

Dont get sucked into paying a big bride price/sin-sod. Make it clear to your darling that you are not buying her like grocery in supermarket. Of course give some money to mum and dad but keep a tight reign. You can have wedding/party in Thailand in Buddhist wedding that is not official until you register at local Amphur(Town Hall)

We had a lovely ceremony at the Aunt's house in Udon Thani, lots of food, music and fun, then a more formal party at the hotel in town with more singing and dancing.  Maybe one day we will have another village marriage party but that can involve hundreds of hangers on which you pay for, though it is still not expensive by Western standards.

All I can say is do not get married too soon, until you have very good understanding and have tested it as genuine, and asked others for their honest feedback.

Very happy with our marriage, Thais are lovely if you get the right one.

Thank you aonsamui. The site really help.

Don't worry, i know her 2 years ago and she really can speak English very well. I always visit her twice a month in Hat Yai and i confirm that she is the one.

I was lucky with my wife.  No payment to the family and we just registered it at the local Amphur and that was it.  No party or anything.   Hardest part was me having to go to the US Embassy to get a piece of paper stating that I was free to marry.

If you are talking about a legal marriage I wrote how I did it. It is aimed at Australians but most of the information will be relevant: How to Legally Marry a Thai
