I'd think that you can.
The entry permits (stamp/visa) are attached to a passport, not the person.

But I would think it would be much more convenient to get a double entry 60-day tourist visa on each passport (there were triple visas some time ago, but I think they were discontinued).
These visas can be extended by a month at immigration office, then you would have to make a "visa run" and re-enter for activating the second entry, giving again 60 day stay, again extendable by 30 days.

So 2 passports would give you one year of stay, with only 3 visa runs, which should lower your costs considerably compared to 11 visa runs.

If I were you, I'd use 2 different consulates for the visas and 2 different immigration offices for the extension. Just incase.

I wouldn't do it. There are two reasons: one is that it is not necessarily and if they catch on it looks suspicious.

Im also dual passport holder. I done this 3 years ago and not any problem. Reason was in my first passport not any pages left, and apply from ambassy is realy big hassle for some countries,  so I use old full  for exit from Thailand. And on my way back in couple hours use my second one. But if is not neccesary, no need to risk many questions in custom. Im sure it is legal.

I have also done it myself but I have been told that it is not legal to travel on more than one passport. Plenty of people do though.

You can carry as many legal passports as you want.
Who told you you cannot travel with more than one passport?
