Lufthansa - 1hour 25 mins enough time for changing flight?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Lufthansa

Manchester - Bangkok via Frankfurt.

Involves a flight change duration of 1 hour 25 mins at Frankfurt, I've never flown with Lufthansa previously therefore unsure if ample time for connecting flight to Bangkok.

Maybe another immigration  cabin baggage search, busy airport, big queues, gate closing 20 mins before departure etc. Can anyone advise please?

Being a Manchester - Frankfurt, it´s a short flight and any delays can't be that much time

It's not like a Madrid - Doha (7,30hrs flright) - then 1,5 hours connection.. the BKK

A couple of years since I last flew with Lufthansa, and I can't remember if you do security at Frankfurt again, on the way out.

I know you do on the way back, as I almost missed my connection once, because of it.

I guess, it's the same as the Aberdeen to Frankfurt flight, in that you land and then bussed to the terminal.

Then its about a 20 minute walk to Bangkok gate.

For me, being a worrier, it's tight.

Most delays are incurred before departing irrespective of the flight time. In fact, the shorter the flight, the less opportunity to ‘make up time in the air’. Depart an hour late for an hour flight and you’ll arrive an hour late. Depart an hour late for an eight hour flight and they might make up some or all of the time in the air. Still, I wouldn’t worry if I was the OP and booked on a single ticket.

Have flown MAN-FRA-SIN and there was no need to pass through immigration/security at FRA so am assuming it would be the same for BKK.

However, flying SIN-HEL-MAN there is no immigration/security but BKK-HEL-MAN (Both on Finnair) there is, so you may need to go through additional security on the way back..

Ok thanks for your advice gent's

I've decided to book the Lufthansa flight as it's cheap.

05/11/19 - 20/11/19.

£398

Outward total duration - 13h 50min

Return total duration - 16h 00min

Aircraft - couldn't careless about Manchester - Frankfurt leg because of short flight.

Bangkok leg - A380-800 (Jumbo I assume)

I did a 55 minute transit @ Doha on Friday. Arrived Manchester and my bags were first off. Happy days.

Suggest you raise the connection timing at your check-in desk, and/or with the chief attendant on the flight to Frankfurt.

This has happened to me, short time for connection. I was guided first off the plane and then escorted to the gate for my onward flight. (This was with FinnAir).

No, its an Airbus, and the worst amount of leg room I have ever encountered.

I know from that time I almost missed my connection at Frankfurt, I was told that baggage needs 45 minutes to transfer onto your connection, and sure enough I did not get my bags until the next day.

What is the size difference between Frankfurt and Doha airports?

Legroom depends greatly on the configuration the specific airline uses.

Mate, a jumbo is a Boeing 747, you are on an Airbus A380.

Lufthansa are flying you from Manchester to Frankfurt,  do you really think that they would book you Frankfurt to Bangkok if there wasn't time to connect.

That is why you should always fly the complete journey with the same carrier, it is their responsibility to ensure your connection.

Now if you were flying another carrier into Frankfurt then it would be your responsibility.

I fly Valencia to Bangkok via Frankfurt with Lufthansa and would love it if there wasn't time to connect.

Compensation or upgrade to business the next day,  well worth it.

Unfortunately,  it never happens.

I found Frankfurt airport a right pain to navigate, Lufthansa itself is fine though.

Yes, same carrier throughout. SAS failed to make my connection in Copenhagen a few years ago

Yes,no problem with Lufthansa

Tell incoming flight  staff, you would like assistance to gate for onward flight

They will allocate ground staff to guide you to departure gate

I have been many times to Frankfurt; it is one of the busiest and biggest airports: number three in Europe, I believe, after London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

I have been once to Doha, flying on Qatar Vienna to Bangkok. While it is spacious it just does not compare.

The problem I had on a 90-minute layover was in understanding the passenger loudspeaker announcements, allegedly in English but I could not understand. I have no Arabic. Just followed other passengers in hope: OK.

I can understand slalom concerns BUT I think Lufthansa would not have advertised this deal if they thought passengers didnt have enough time to get from one flight to the other in time.

For peace of mind maybe slalom can book his seat on the Manchester to Frankfurt flight in advance and book a  seat at the front of the plane.  So that he is one of the first off the flight.

Also the Cabin crew on the Frankfurt to Suvarnabhumi flight will know that there will be at least one passenger on the Manchester flight booked onto there flight and will be waiting for him at there gate and will help him once he arrives
